    What's the story

Aryna Sabalenka is set to take on Jessica Pegula in the final of the 2024 US Open on Saturday.

Sabalenka has reached her second successive final at the US Open and is chasing a maiden honor.

This is also her 2nd Slam final in 2024. She won the Australian Open.

Meanwhile, Pegula is into her maiden Slam final. Here we decode the key stats.

    Sabalenka

4th Grand Slam final for Sabalenka

According to Opta, Sabalenka is tied for second on the list of active players (women's singles) to reach the most Grand Slam finals, on hard courts, behind Victoria Azarenka (5).

In addition to two Australian Open finals, Sabalenka is now a two-time finalist (US Open).

Sabalenka is 76-23 at Grand Slams, including 27-6 at the US Open.

    She is a five-time semi-finalist at Slams.

    Pegula

Pegula beat Muchova to reach maiden Slam final

Pegula advanced to her first Grand Slam final after sealing a comeback to defeat Karolina Muchova 1-6, 6-4, 6-2.

The 30-year-old trailed 6-1, 2-0 before storming back to notch her 15th win in her last 16 matches.

Pegula, who is into her maiden final, has been a six-time quarter-finalist at Grand Slams.

She is 47-22 at Slam events, including 18-7 at US Open.

    Information

    Elite company for Sabalenka

As per Opta, since the Australian Open's switch from grass in 1988, Sabalenka is the fifth player to reach the women's singles final at the Australian and US Open in consecutive seasons after Steffi Graf, Monica Seles, Martina Hingis and Azarenka.

    Opta stats

    Pegula attains these unique feats

By overcoming Muchova, Pegula (30y, 193d) is the oldest American in the Open Era to reach a maiden women's singles final at a Grand Slam event.

Pegula is just the fourth player in the Open Era to reach the women's singles final at the Canadian, Cincinnati and US Open in a season after Rosemary Casals (1970), Evonne Goolagong Cawley (1973) and Serena Williams (2013).

    Third player with this record

Pegula is only the third player in the Open Era to win a women's singles semi-final at the US Open after losing the first set 6-1, after Svetlana Kuznetsova (2004) and Azarenka (2020) - excluding retirements.

H2H record between Sabalenka and Pegula

Sabalenka leads Pegula 5-2 in terms of head-to-head on the WTA Tour. Before this, the two met at the 2024 Cincinnati Open. They also met in the WTA Finals in 2023 before that with Pegula winning the contest.
