Here's what Rohit Sharma said on MS Dhoni's retirement rumors

    What's the story

Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni has been subject to numerous retirement rumors, as he is yet to play for India since the conclusion of India's ICC World Cup 2019 campaign.

While selectors have also said that they are looking beyond Dhoni, the speculations of his retirement have taken pace.

Meanwhile, on being questioned the same, here's what Rohit Sharma had to say.

    Fitting reply

Rohit gives fitting reply on Dhoni's retirement rumors

As skipper Rohit was addressing the media in Delhi on Thursday, ahead of the opening T20I against Bangladesh, he was questioned on the status of Dhoni's international return and possible retirement.

While Rohit refused the speak on the issue, he gave a fitting reply and smartly said, "We don't hear anything about these things. You guys make these things up."

    Current status

Dhoni yet to play for India following World Cup ouster

For now, Dhoni is on a sabbatical from the sport following the conclusion of the 2019 World Cup.

Dhoni missed India's limited-overs campaign against Windies and then the T20Is against South Africa, while he would miss the upcoming T20Is against Bangladesh, having extended his break until the end of November.

He is likely to play the T20Is against the Windies in December.

    Decision

Sourav Ganguly feels the decision relies entirely upon Dhoni

Earlier, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly too made it clear on the issue that the decision to play or retire entirely relies upon Dhoni, asides what the team management feels.

"What he (Dhoni) wants to do, what he doesn't (want) to do...What matters is what Dhoni wants. If Virat and the management expect Dhoni to come back and play, he will play," Ganguly had said.

    Shastri's take

Shastri wants Dhoni to resume playing before deciding his future

Meanwhile, coach Ravi Shastri too had said that while he had not met Dhoni following the World Cup, he wants him to resume playing before deciding his future.

"He has to first start playing and let's see how things go. I don't think he has started playing after the World Cup. If he's keen, he will definitely let the selectors know," he had said.

    Records

    Dhoni's records in international cricket

Following are some of the records held by Dhoni in international cricket:

    - Has played the most matches as captain across formats.

    - Only wicket-keeper to effect 150 stumpings across formats.
