Pakistan's name missing in logo, PCB files complaint to ICC

    What's the story

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has raised its concerns with the International Cricket Council (ICC) after Pakistan's name was omitted from the Champions Trophy logo.

The incident took place during the live telecast of Thursday's India-Bangladesh match in Dubai.

The logo, which appeared on the top left corner of the screen, only mentioned 'Champions Trophy 2025' without acknowledging Pakistan as the host nation.

    Here's more.

    Broadcast inconsistency

Logo omission: A deviation from previous broadcasts

Notably, the absence of Pakistan's name from the logo during the India-Bangladesh match was a stark contrast from previous tournament broadcasts.

In earlier matches, including the opener between Pakistan and New Zealand in Karachi, both the event name and host nation were prominently displayed on screen.

This inconsistency has irked PCB and they have now sought an explanation from ICC.

    Technical glitch

ICC attributes omission to technical error

The ICC has informally blamed an early technical error for Pakistan's name missing from the logo.

However, this explanation hasn't appeased PCB, particularly because graphics for live feeds are usually prepared well in advance.

The fact that Pakistan's name was included in the logo for the tournament's opening game has only added to PCB's skepticism over why this happened during the India-Bangladesh fixture.

    Assurance

ICC assures no repetition of logo omission

Despite PCB's displeasure, the ICC insists the incident was due to a technical glitch.

They have promised that this won't happen again in any future games, whether they are played in Pakistan or the UAE.

This promise comes ahead of Sunday's much-awaited match between India and official hosts Pakistan in Dubai, which is likely to draw a huge viewership.

    Match recap

All-round India beat Bangladesh in their Champions Trophy opener

Team India comprehensively beat Bangladesh by six wickets in the second match of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

The Men in Blue comfortably accomplished the 229-run target in Dubai thanks to a brilliant hundred from Shubman Gill.

Earlier in the game, Bangladesh posted a competitive total of 228/10 thanks to a record-breaking partnership between centurion Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali.

    Mohammed Shami claimed a fifer.

    NZ vs PAK

New Zealand tame Pakistan in ICC Champions Trophy opener

Meanwhile, New Zealand beat defending champions Pakistan in match number 1 of the ICC Champions Trophy in Karachi on Wednesday.

Centurions Will Young (107) and Tom Latham (118*) were brilliant. Glenn Phillips played a whirlwind knock as New Zealand posted 320/5 in 50 overs.

In response, Babar Azam and Khushdil Shah's fifties weren't enough as Pakistan (260/10) suffered a big defeat.

Will O'Rourke and Mitchell Santer shined for NZ, bagging three wickets each.
