Champions Trophy: Pakistan hire 'special coach' before India clash

    What's the story

Pakistan have roped in former cricketer Mudassar Nazar, as they gear up for a do-or-die clash against India in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy.

The move comes after Pakistan's dismal start to the tournament, as they suffered a crushing defeat in their opening game to New Zealand.

Another defeat would see them bow out of the competition.

Meanwhile, the much-anticipated match will take place on February 23 in Dubai.

    Expertise

Nazar's experience expected to boost Pakistan's performance

Nazar, a veteran cricketer with a wealth of experience in the UAE conditions, has been roped in as a special coach for the crucial match.

His coaching career includes teams like Pakistan, Kenya, and UAE.

Additionally, he has also been associated with ICC's Global Cricket Academy in Dubai.

The PCB is hoping his tactical genius will help the team in their must-win clash against India.

    Training challenges

Pakistan's practice session reveals consistency issues

Despite Nazar's guidance, reports indicate that Pakistan failed to find consistency during their training session in Dubai.

The team was marred by mistimed shots and fielding errors, including dropped catches and lapses in concentration.

These problems only add to the pressure as they take on a decisive match against India, who have kicked off the tournament on a high note by beating Bangladesh by six wickets.

    Winning streak

India's strong start in Champions Trophy 2025

As mentioned, India have made a strong start to the tournament, defeating Bangladesh by six wickets.

Shubman Gill led the team to victory with an unbeaten century (101*), while Mohammed Shami's bowling performance was another highlight for the side.

Notably, a win against Pakistan would secure India's place in the semi-final.

The last time these two teams faced each other in an ODI was during the 2023 World Cup, where India emerged victorious.

    Team dynamics

    Pakistan's struggles and India's strengths

Pakistan are also coping with the ouster of opener Zaman, who has been replaced by Imam ul Haq.

However, Khushdil Shah's aggressive 69 in the tournament opener has been a silver lining for the team.

Meanwhile, India seem to be in a better position ahead of the clash with captain Rohit Sharma returning to form and Gill anchoring the team against Bangladesh with his eighth ODI century.
