    What's the story

25-year-old Indian table tennis player Soumyajit Ghosh, who has been accused of rape by a teenager in Kolkata, has suffered another blow.

The Bengal star has been dropped from the Ultimate Table Tennis 2018 Players draft.

The franchise based league, that started last year, struck his name off the list, as the player is facing provisional suspension.

    Decision made

    Raj Mondal to replace Ghosh

The table tennis league has replaced Ghosh with another Bengal player Raj Mondal.

The organisers took the decision after the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) provisionally suspended the paddler, pending investigations of rape charges.

In a statement, the organiser said with the draft to be held on March 28, they cannot wait for court verdict, and that's why they dropped him.

    Information

    Who is Raj Mondal?

Raj Mondal is currently India's number 6 ranked player in table tennis. He is a seasoned campaigner and has won two mixed doubles titles in Senior National Championships. He finished third in the last National Games in singles event.

Further setback for Ghosh after CWG snub

Ghosh is already out of the 21st Commonwealth Games to be held at Gold Coast from April 4 onwards.

And now, he has suffered a major setback. Moreover, missing game time in the process will severely impact his future prospects.

The Arjuna awardee has denied the rape allegations made against him saying that it is a ploy by his ex-girlfriend to ruin his career.
