    What's the story

Novak Djokovic has reached the second round of the 2024 Australian Open after overcoming Dino Prizmic in four sets.

The Serbian ace beat Prizmic 6-2, 6-7, 6-3, 6-4. Djokovic is bidding for a record-extending 11th Australian Open this year.

Djokovic won three Grand Slam honors last year and reached all four finals. He remains the favorite for the 2024 AO.

    Information

A look at the match stats

Djokovic doled out 11 aces compared to 7 from Prizmic, who went on to commit seven double faults. Djokovic claimed a 66% win on the first serve and another 63% on the second. He also converted 8/17 break points.

    Slams

Djokovic clocks his 90th win at AO

Djokovic has won his 90th match at the Australian Open. He has become the second player after Roger Federer (102) to clock 90-plus wins in Melbourne.

He has won his 29th successive match at the Australian Open, having won four successive honors here barring 2022 when he didn't participate.

Djokovic has raced to a 362-48 win-loss record at Grand Slams.

    Records

    Records smashed by Djokovic

Djokovic is now the only player with 90+ men's singles wins in three different Grand Slams in the Open Era (92 at the Roland Garros and in Wimbledon).

As per Opta, Djokovic is the player with the most singles Grand Slam matches played in the Open Era against qualifiers without ever losing (22). He surpassed Serena Williams, who clocked 21 wins.

    Stats

    Unique records for Prizmic

Prizmic is now the third Croatian player since the ATP Rankings were published in 1973 to win a set against the World No. 1 in Grand Slam events. He joins Goran Ivanisevic (thrice) and Marin Cilic (once).

Meanwhile, Prizmic has become the second youngest player since the ATP Rankings to win a set against the World No. 1 at the Australian Open.

    Wins

Hard-fought wins for Rublev and Fritz

Andrey Rublev had to battle hard against Thiago Seyboth Wild. Despite leading 2-0 (7-5, 6-4), Wild forced a comeback (6-3, 6-4) and won two sets to make it 2-2. In the deciding set, Rublev held on winning 7-6 (10-6).

On the other hand, Taylor Fritz escaped a five-set scare. He rallied from behind to defeat Facundo Diaz Acosta 4-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.
