    New Zealand beat Netherlands in first ODI: Records broken

    What's the story

    The New Zealand cricket team sealed a win over the Netherlands in the first ODI on Tuesday at the Bay Oval.

    Batting first, the Dutch were bowled out for 202 in 49.4 overs against the hosts.

    In response, the Kiwis (204/3) got the job done in 38.3 overs.

    29-year-old Will Young slammed an unbeaten 103.

    How did the first ODI pan out?

    The Netherlands were in a spot of bother at the start, losing five wickets for just 45 runs.

    Michael Rippon and skipper Pieter Seelar added a crucial 80-run stand for the sixth wicket.

    New Zealand claimed crucial wickets but Rippon ensured his side breached the 200-run mark.

    Blair Tickner claimed four scalps.

    In response, Henry Nicholls and Young shared a match-winning stand.

    Duo

    Crucial knocks from Rippon and Seelar

    Rippon slammed a crucial 67 from 97 deliveries, hitting four fours and a six.

    This was his second ODI fifty, besides the best score in the format.

    Meanwhile, Seelar hit 43 from 75 balls, with the help of three fours.

    He has raced to 278 runs at 12.08. This is his best ODI score.

    Bowling

    Key numbers for the Kiwi bowlers

    Tickner, who made his ODI debut for the Kiwis, claimed figures worth 4/50 from his 10 overs.

    He clocked an average of 12.50 and an economy rate of 5.00.

    Meanwhile, Kyle Jamieson took three wickets as well.

    The all-rounder has eight scalps from six ODIs, notching his best bowling performance (3/45).

    Matt Henry (1/31) has 99 wickets for NZ, equaling Nathan Astle's tally.

    Batting

    Nicholls and Young deliver the goods

    Nicholls played a fine knock, scoring 57 from 79 balls. He smashed three fours and a six.

    He has raced to 1,466 runs in ODIs at 36.65.

    This was his 12th ODI fifty.

    Young was the chief architect, hammering a superb 103* from 114 balls.

    He hit eight fours and three sixes.

    Young slammed his maiden ton in what was his third ODI game.
