    What's the story

Rafael Nadal on Sunday extended his perfect season in 2022 by winning the Mexican Open title.

He defeated the British number one Cameron Norrie in straight-sets 6-4, 6-4 in the final.

Nadal won the Acapulco title without dropping a single set.

With this, Nadal has extended his winning streak in 2022 to 15-0.

It was Spaniard's 11th straight win in the ATP Tour finals.

    Context

    Why does this story matter?

This is Nadal's best start to a season.

Before this, Nadal won the Melbourne Summer Set, which is a build-up event for the Australian Open.

Thereafter, he won the first Grand Slam of the year in Melbourne to take his major Slam tally to 21.

Following his victory in Mexico, Nadal is set to improve his ranking. This is his fourth Mexican Open title.

    Key stats from the match

Norrie hammered four aces, one more than his senior opponent.

The Brit made two double faults as compared to none by Nadal.

The Spaniard won 71% points on the first serve and 42% points on the second serve.

Norrie, meanwhile, won 60% points on the first serve and 53% on the second serve.

Nadal won four breakpoints while Norrie managed two.

    Statement

"I went through some very difficult moments during the match that I was able to save, and then I took advantage when I had the chances," said Nadal.

"It was a very important title for me, so I can't be happier," he further said, adding Cameron is a "tricky player."

"He makes you feel... you cannot play comfortably against him at all," he concluded.
