Shami's three-fer will boost his confidence for ODIs: Parthiv Patel

    What's the story

Former Indian cricketer Parthiv Patel has lauded Mohammed Shami's recent performance in the fifth T20I against England.

Patel believes that this successful spell, where Shami took three wickets for 25 runs, will significantly boost his confidence for the upcoming ODI series and Champions Trophy.

This was a significant comeback for Shami after a long injury-induced absence from international cricket.

    Stellar performance

Shami's comeback strengthens India's pace attack

Shami's return to form is a massive boost for India, especially with the Champions Trophy just around the corner.

Although he didn't take any wickets in his first match back during the third T20I in Rajkot, he made a strong comeback at Wankhede Stadium.

Patel emphasized how this performance could help Shami regain his rhythm in ODI cricket, an important factor given India's packed 50-over schedule.

    Comeback journey

Patel highlights Shami's resilience and luck

Patel highlighted that Shami got his first wickets after 444 days of no international cricket.

"He (Shami) came and didn't have a good first-over, but you need a bit of luck, obviously," Patel said while speaking on Star Sports after the match.

"To be out of international cricket for so long, it's not easy, and especially when you're coming in on a very flat wicket."

    Match impact

Shami's role in India's dominant win over England

In the Mumbai match, Shami came in place of Arshdeep Singh and was instrumental in India's thumping 150-run win over England.

His knack for movement and capitalizing on England's aggressive intent did the trick.

Although Abhishek Sharma's record-breaking 135 stole the show, Shami's return to wicket-taking form was the biggest positive for the Indian team.

    Upcoming series

Shami to join India's ODI squad for England series

Shami will now join India's ODI squad for the three-match series against England, beginning February 6 in Nagpur.

The series will be a testing ground for India's strategies ahead of the Champions Trophy.

Shami is already named in the 15-member squad for this tournament and his experience and skill will be crucial as he leads the pace attack alongside Jasprit Bumrah.
