    Teams conceding most extras in a Champions Trophy innings

    What's the story

    The 2025 Champions Trophy match between Australia and Afghanistan was washed out in the second innings due to heavy rain.

    Afghanistan had earlier posted 273/10.

    With this, Australia secured a semifinal spot while also setting a record for conceding the third-most extras (37) in a CT innings, according to Cricbuzz.

    Here are the teams that have conceded the most extras in a CT inning.

    42 - IND vs KEN, The Rose Bowl, 2004

    In the 2004 Champions Trophy, India conceded the most extras in a CT innings, giving away 42 runs.

    All Indian bowlers contributed to the extras, including 11 wides, 10 byes, 9 leg byes, and 4 no-balls.

    However, these extras didn't hurt India, as Kenya were restricted to 192/7 chasing 291.

    Earlier, Sourav Ganguly smashed a 90-run knock. Harbhajan Singh starred with a three-fer.

    38 - NED vs SL, Colombo (RPS), 2002

    In the 2002 CT, the Netherlands set a then-record for most extras conceded in an innings, giving away 38 runs (18 wides, 9 leg byes, 6 byes, 5 no-balls).

    Victor Grandia was the biggest contributor (4 wides, 3 no-balls).

    Sri Lanka capitalized, posting 292/6 before bowling out the Netherlands for 86.

    Marvan Atapattu shone with a century (101), while Muthiah Muralidaran bagged a four-fer..

    37 - AUS vs AFG, Lahore, 2025

    As mentioned, in the rain-marred AUS vs AFG clash, Australia conceded 37 extras while bowling first.

    Spencer Johnson was the biggest contributor, giving away six wides.

    The tally included 17 wides, 15 leg-byes, and five byes.

    Meanwhile, Afghanistan posted 273/10, while Australia started strong, smashing 90 runs in the first powerplay.

    However, continuous rain interrupted play, leading to a no-result.

    36 - SL vs BAN, Mohali, 2006

    In the 2006 Champions Trophy, Sri Lanka conceded 36 extras while defending 303 against Bangladesh.

    Dilhara Fernando gave away the most (four wides, four no-balls).

    The total included 21 wides, eight no-balls, four byes, and three leg-byes.

    Despite this, Bangladesh fell short, managing only 265/9 in 50 overs, as Sri Lanka secured a 37-run victory.

    36 - AUS vs WI, Johannesburg, 2009

    In the 2009 Champions Trophy (Johannesburg), West Indies conceded 23 extras while bowling first, including seven leg byes, seven no-balls, and nine wides, per ESPNcricinfo.

    Kemar Roach was the most expensive, giving away four wides and four no-balls.

    Australia posted 275/8 in 50 overs and later bowled out WI for 225, securing a 50-run victory.

    Ricky Ponting (79) and Mitchell Johnson (73*) smashed half-centuries.
