Five moves which have been banned by WWE

    What's the story

WWE is probably the most famous form of sports entertainment.

However, it involves the wrestlers learning the right techniques, as they create their own signature moves to finish off their opponents.

Notably, over the years, we have witnessed some moves that have been considered unsafe, resulting in the promotion banning them.

And here, we take a look at some of those moves.

    Piledriver

The original and most lethal weapon

The Piledriver was probably one of the most lethal moves used in WWE.

The move involved holding the opponent upside down and slamming his head onto the mat.

The move did knock the opponent out, resulting in an easy win for the person executing it.

However, many botched moves have resulted in careers being ended, including Stone Cold Steve Austin's, leading to WWE's ban.

    Chokehold

Not so dangerous, but banned for a different reason

The Hangman Chokehold might look dangerous, but it is relatively safe compared to other moves in WWE.

The move involved lifting the opponent in the air, grabbing hold of his neck, while his leg was locked around the wrestler's body.

The move was famously performed by late WWE wrestler Chris Benoit.

It was banned following him murdering his family, before committing suicide.

    The Vertebreaker

A name so dangerous itself, let alone the move

As the name itself suggests, The Vertebreaker is likely to break the vertebra of the opponent.

The move was performed by Gregory 'Hurricane' Helms, who lifted his opponent on his back, before hitting him with a reverse piledriver.

Although no one in WWE was ever hurt, wrestlers in other promotions did.

As a result, WWE decided to ban the move, terming it unsafe.

    Burning Hammer

Lethal and safe, but imitation issues

Now, Burning Hammer is one of the moves that has hardly been used in WWE, but is still banned.

It was invented by Japanese wrestler Kenta Kobashi.

It involved lifting the opponent on his backside, while slamming his face burst onto the mat.

No wrestler got injured through this move, but WWE banned it since it was similar to Attitude Adjustment by John Cena.

    The Punt

The most dangerous kick in the world

During Randy Orton's run as a heel, a few years back, he also invented The Punt Kick, where he ran towards his grounded opponent and kicked him at the side of the head.

The move injured multiple superstars, including chairman Vince McMahon, resulting in being banned.

Also, the move looked so easy that several kids started imitating it.
