'Couldn't digest it': Mohammed Siraj reflects on Champions Trophy exclusion

    What's the story

Mohammed Siraj has revealed his first reaction to being omitted from the Indian squad for the Champions Trophy.

The fast bowler, who was a part of the squads for the ODI World Cup 2023 and T20 World Cup 2024, was left out of this tournament.

The Indian team management took the decision as they planned to field more spinners with all their matches taking place in Dubai.

    Reserve role

Siraj was named a non-traveling reserve for the tournament

Despite being left out of the main squad, Siraj was named a non-traveling reserve for the Champions Trophy.

However, his services weren't needed as India won the tournament.

Ahead of his debut with Gujarat Titans in the 2025 Indian Premier League, Siraj said that he was shocked by the snub.

"At the beginning, I couldn't digest that I wasn't part of the squad," said Siraj.

    Trust in leadership

Siraj trusts Rohit Sharma's decision-making for team

Siraj also expressed his faith in Rohit Sharma and the Indian team management's decision-making, saying they always do what's best for the team.

"Rohit bhai also does what is best for the team," said Siraj, explaining why he thinks their decision was justified.

"He knew that spinners will be for useful and that's why they decided to snub me."

    Personal growth

Break from Champions Trophy helped Siraj focus on fitness

During his Champions Trophy break, Siraj took time to focus on his fitness and bowling skills.

He confessed that playing continuously had made him miss some mistakes in his game.

"When you're playing you don't realize the mistakes you make," he explained, adding the break was good for him, especially since India won the Champions Trophy during this time.
