Men's Hundred: ECB pulls Chris Woakes out to manage workload

    What's the story

The England and Wales Cricket Board has pulled Chris Woakes out from the ongoing Hundred men's competition to manage his workload.

Woakes will be part of England's Test series against Sri Lanka, starting August 21.

The English all-rounder was supposed to turn out for Birmingham Phoenix's final two group-stage matches.

The announcement comes after a hamstring injury ruled Ben Stokes out of the tournament.

    Withdrawal

    Woakes's withdrawal from the Hundred

England's Test captain Stokes recently suffered a hamstring injury during the Hundred match against Manchester Originals.

His participation in the Sri Lanka Test series now hangs in balance.

A Stokes-less England side would want all-rounder Woakes to be at his absolute best in the home Test series.

However, as per ESPNcricinfo, Woakes's withdrawal from the Hundred "isn't linked to the hamstring injury of Stokes".
