    World Boxing Championships: Mary Kom enters 48 kg category final

    What's the story

    India's veteran ace boxer Mary Kom entered the 48 kg light flyweight category final of the Women's World Boxing Championships.

    The celebrated boxer is on course for a record sixth gold in the coveted event.

    Kom beat North Korea's Kim Hyang Mi in the semi-final.

    She had last won the gold medal in the World Championships in 2010.

    Kom set to win 7th World Championships medal

    Kom entered the event with a stupendous tally of five gold medals and a silver to her name.

    Now she has assured herself of a seventh medal in the World Championships.

    Kom was tied with Irish legend Katie Taylor in the number of medals won in this event (6).

    Taylor had pocketed 1 bronze and 5 gold medals.

    Kom to face Ukraine's Hanna Okhota in the finale

    The 35-year-old Kom will be up against Hanna Okhota of Ukraine for the gold medal bout on Saturday. Hanna got the better of Japan's Madoka Wada in the other semi-final.

    India assured of three other medals

    Meanwhile, India have been assured of another three medals in the ongoing event.

    Lovlina Borgohain (69 kg), Sonia Chahal (57 kg) and Simranjit Kaur (64 kg) will bag at least bronze after they reached semis earlier.

    According to PTI, Indian boxing's High Performance Director Santiago Nieva said, "Mary Kom is of course the star but it's nice to see other girls also stepping up."
