    What's the story

Australia's rising cricket star Sam Konstas, has opened up on his early exit from the second Test in Galle, Sri Lanka.

The 19-year-old opener is now gearing up for his maiden appearance at the Gabba in a Sheffield Shield match against Queensland.

"This is going to be my first time at the Gabba and obviously hopefully (NSW) we will build a bit of momentum and make the final," Konstas told CODE Sports.

    Team changes

Konstas replaced by Travis Head in Test series

Konstas, who made his international debut in two Tests against India, was initially picked for Australia's ongoing tour of SL.

However, he was later replaced by Travis Head.

The decision was largely supported as Head has been impressive against host countries in the sub-continent.

Despite his omission, Konstas was grateful for being in the squad and stated, "I felt like I was privileged to be in the squad and learn from the best players like Steve Smith, and Usman Khawaja.

    Positive outlook

Konstas views omission as a learning opportunity

Konstas, however, sees his exclusion from the squad as a great learning experience.

"I understood the reasons why. For me, it is just a great learning curve and if I do get another opportunity with the Test team I will grab it with both hands," he said.

He also admitted Head's mastery, saying, "I understand why Travis Head opened the batting because he is a legend of the game and he has been dominating."

    Upcoming challenge

Konstas prepares for challenging Gabba wicket

Konstas is now gearing up to take on the traditionally bouncy and fast-paced Gabba wicket in his match against Queensland.

His NSW captain Jack Edwards, has backed the decision to send him home early from Sri Lanka, saying it will be good for Konstas's future in Test cricket.

"He's going to be in the Test team for a long time in the future, (and) he's going to play a lot of cricket (at the Gabba)," Edwards said.

    Captain's endorsement

Edwards praises Konstas's dedication and energy

Edwards also lauded Konstas's dedication and energy, saying he is "always hungry for runs."

He said he was excited to have Konstas back in the team, noting how he positively affected the group.

"It'll be great to have him back around the group. He's coming off the back of a good Test summer, but also his energy and personality around the group is fantastic for us," Edwards said.

    Stats

Sam Konstas's FC stats at a glance

Across 13 first-class cricket matches (22 innings), the young batter has amassed 831 runs.

He also owns an average of 39.57, alongside his two tons and four fifties. Additionally, his highest score reads 152.

Notably, 113 of his FC runs and one fifty have come for Australia in Tests. He also smashed a fifty in his debut innings against India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
