    What's the story

The much-awaited Indian Premier League (IPL) clash between the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Lucknow Super Giants on April 6 is encountering a major roadblock.

The Kolkata Police have stated that they will not be able to provide sufficient security for the match owing to the Ram Navami celebrations.

The case presents a unique challenge for authorities amid citywide processions on the occasion of Ram Navami on April 6.

    Here's more.

    Collaborative efforts

CAB in talks with state sports minister

Given this challenge, Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) officials are in talks with state Sports Minister Aroop Biswas.

According to sources, Biswas has assured support and will discuss solutions with Kolkata Police.

However, changing the match venue or rescheduling it could be complicated, considering the excitement around the KKR vs LSG fixture.

    Fixture importance

KKR vs LSG match holds added significance

The importance of this game has grown owing to Lucknow's ownership connection with Kolkata industrialist Sanjiv Goenka.

Meanwhile, the addition of star player Rishabh Pant has made this fixture even more intriguing.

However, scheduling clashes aren't new to the IPL, as a similar issue in 2024 saw KKR's match rescheduled due to Ram Navami.

    Team update

KKR announce new captain ahead of IPL 2025

KKR have appointed Ajinkya Rahane as their skipper, with Venkatesh Iyer as vice-captain.

The team begins its training camp at Eden Gardens on March 12, preparing for an exciting season ahead.

KKR CEO Venky Mysore praised Rahane during the official announcement, stating, "We are delighted to have someone like Ajinkya Rahane, who brings his experience and maturity as a leader."

This development adds another layer of intrigue and anticipation to the upcoming IPL season.

    Season opener

Season to launch with KKR vs RCB face-off

The 18th edition of the IPL will kick off on Saturday, March 22.

The opening match will take place at Kolkata's Eden Gardens, where the defending champions KKR will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Additionally, KKR would be looking to defend their title, while RCB would make a strong push toward their maiden title.

    Tournament finale

IPL 2025 final to be held at Eden Gardens

The BCCI had earlier officially announced the full schedule for IPL 2025.

The final will be held in Kolkata, at Eden Gardens, on Sunday, May 25. Apart from hosting the final, Eden Gardens will also host Qualifier 2 on May 23.
