    What's the story

Former New Zealand all-rounder Jacob Oram has been named the new bowling coach for the NZ Men's cricket team.

He steps into this role following Shane Jurgensen's departure.

Oram is no stranger to the team, having previously served as their bowling coach during last year's Test tour of Bangladesh, the T20I series against Australia, and the ICC T20 World Cup earlier this year.

    Enthusiasm

Oram expresses excitement over new role

Oram expressed his enthusiasm about rejoining the Blackcaps, stating, "I'm really excited to have the opportunity to be involved with the Blackcaps again."

He described his return to a team that has been a significant part of his life as a real honor.

Oram also highlighted the emerging talent in New Zealand's bowling ranks and expressed his eagerness to share his expertise with them.

    Career

Oram's coaching journey and future prospects

Oram began his coaching career in 2014 with New Zealand A, and later served as the bowling coach for New Zealand Women from 2018.

He was appointed head coach of Central Hinds last summer, leading them to the Super Smash final.

His international experience includes stints as an assistant coach in the Abu Dhabi T10 and bowling coach of MI Cape Town in the SA20.

    Praise

Head coach Stead praises Oram's understanding of international cricket

Head coach Gary Stead praised Oram as a "great operator," whose playing and coaching experiences speak volumes.

He lauded Oram's deep understanding of the international game and his experience in franchise cricket.

Stead believes these qualities will be beneficial in understanding modern players and the evolving landscape of contemporary cricket.

Notably, Oram enjoyed an illustrious career as a player for Kiwis, scalping 173, 63, and 19 scalps in ODIs, Tests, and T20Is, respectively. He also scored over 4,500 runs.
