IPL 2025, CSK vs MI: How the 'Impact Players' fared

    What's the story

Chennai Super Kings beat arch-rivals Mumbai Indians in Match 3 of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Khaleel Ahmed and Noor Ahmad shared seven wickets as MI were restricted to a mere 155/9.

    Noor dismissed four batters.

In reply, the Super Kings crossed the line in the final over thanks to half-centuries from skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra.

Here we decode the performances of the 'Impact substitutes.'

    Match details

How did the game pan out?

Mumbai Indians, notorious for their slow starts in IPL matches, faltered yet again as they lost wickets at regular intervals.

Khaleel made the new ball talk and picked two wickets in his first two overs. Noor's four-wicket haul dented them thereafter.

Vital contributions from Suryakumar Yadav (29) and Tilak Varma (31) alongside a crucial cameo from Deepak Chahar (28*) meant MI finished at 155/9.

CSK (158/6) prevailed in 19.1 overs thanks to Gaikwad (53) and Ravindra (65*).

    Rahul Tripathi flops for CSK

Rahul Tripathi came in as CSK's 'Impact Player' as he displaced pacer Khaleel, who claimed three wickets in the first innings.

Surprisingly, Tripathi opened alongside Ravindra as skipper Gaikwad designated himself at number three.

The move didn't work as Tripathi fell to Chahar in the second over.

The dasher mistimed a pull shot as wicket-keeper Ryan Rickelton took the catch.

Tripathi walked back, scoring two from three balls.

    MI

    Dream debut for Vignesh Puthur

For MI, Vignesh Puthur came in as the 'Impact Player', having displaced Rohit Sharma.

The game marked his IPL debut and the left-arm wrist-spinner made a significant mark.

Having been introduced in the eighth over, he dismissed the dangerous-looking Gaikwad with his fifth ball.

The 24-year-old later trapped Shivam Dube (9) and Deepak Hooda (3) as CSK went from 78/1 to 107/4.

Despite conceding two sixes in his final over, Puthur finished with 3/32 from four overs.
