    What's the story

Rajasthan Royals beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Ahmedabad to reach the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) Qualifier 2.

The Royals successfully chased down 173, with Rovman Powell getting them home.

Avesh Khan took three wickets, while Trent Boult and Ravichandran Ashwin bowled economical spells.

Notably, the match recorded no individual half-centuries.

The Royals will now take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 2.

    Summary

    A look at match summary

RCB's top-four Virat Kohli (33), Faf du Plessis (17), Cameron Green (27), and Rajat Patidar (34) got starts after RR invited them to bat.

While Glenn Maxwell recorded a golden duck, Mahipal Lomror and Swapnil Singh added the finish touch.

RR took a similar route, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag recording 35+ scores.

Shimron Hetmyer scored 26 before Rovman Powell got them home.

    Milestone

First player with 8,000 IPL runs

As has been the case, Kohli came out with a positive intent and scored a 24-ball 33 (3 fours and 1 six).

With this, he became the first-ever batter to complete 8,000 runs in the IPL. He attained this feat with his 29th run in the match.

Notably, no other batter has even 7,000 runs in the cash-rich league.

    Chahal

Most wickets for RR in IPL

Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal took his only wicket in the form of Kohli.

The RR spinner become the highest wicket-taker for RR in the IPL. He broke the tie with Siddharth Trivedi to go to the top.

Trivedi, who served the Royals from 2008 to 2013, took 65 IPL wickets from 76 matches for RR.

Playing his 45th game for RR, Chahal owns 66 scalps.

    Record

    Highest wicket-taker for multiple teams

Chahal has become the only bowler to be the highest wicket-taker for multiple teams in the IPL.

The leg-spinner was a mainstay bowler for RCB between 2014 and 2021. He is still the only bowler with over 100 IPL wickets for them.

Chahal served RCB for eight seasons and returned with 139 wickets in 113 games, conceding runs at 7.58.

    Maxwell

Maxwell records his fourth duck of IPL 2024

Maxwell continues to be in a downward spiral in the 2024 IPL season. He recorded a golden duck in the all-important encounter.

This marked Maxwell's fourth duck of IPL 2024, the joint second-most by a batter in a season.

This was Maxwell's 18th duck, the joint-most by a batter in the IPL. He equaled Dinesh Karthik. Rohit Sharma follows the duo with 17 ducks.

    Avesh

Avesh bags his best bowling figures of IPL 2024

Avesh conceded 17 runs in his very first over, the match's fourth. Du Plessis and Kohli charged against him.

The Indian pacer gave away another 13 runs in his second over before dismissing Rajat Patidar.

Avesh's final over saw him dismiss both Dinesh Karthik and Mahipal Lomror.

Avesh took three wickets for 44 runs, his best bowling figures in IPL 2024.

    Ashwin

    Second-most wickets in IPL playoffs

Off-spinner Ashwin bowled an economical spell, taking two wickets for 19 runs.

With this, he became the second-highest wicket-taker in the IPL playoffs. He broke a tie with Ravindra Jadeja and went past Mohit Sharma in this regard.

Ashwin, with 21 scalps, is only behind Dwayne Bravo. The CSK all-rounder took 28 wickets in the playoffs.

    Information

Fourth-highest score without an individual 50-plus score in IPL playoffs

RCB racked up 172/8, the fourth-highest score without an individual 50-plus score in the IPL playoffs. They went past CSK's 171/5 against Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2023 final at the same venue.

    Numbers

A look at other notable numbers

Boult conceded just 16 runs for a wicket in four overs, the fifth-most economical spell by a seamer in IPL 2024 (minimum three overs).

Powell took four catches, the joint-most in an innings for RR (non-wicketkeepers) with Riyan Parag (4 vs RCB, Pune, 2022).

As per Cricbuzz, Powell became the first fielder to claim four catches in an IPL playoff game.

    Q2

RR to face SRH in Qualifier 2

As mentioned, RR will lock horns with SRH in the Qualifier 2. The Orange Army lost the first Qualifier to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who reached the final.

As per the format, the winner of Qualifier 2 (Winner of Eliminator vs Loser of Qualifier 1) marches into the final (Winner of Qualifier 1 vs Winner of Qualifier 2).

    RCB

RCB's uncanny season comes to an end

RCB miraculously reached the IPL 2024 playoffs after beating Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a battle of Net Run Rate.

They became the first-ever side to reach the playoffs after winning only one of their first eight games.

The Royal Challengers were winless for a month before bagging six consecutive wins.

And now, their uncanny campaign has ended with a four-wicket defeat to RR.
