    Kanpur Test: Ultra-aggressive India dominate Bangladesh on eventful Day 4

    What's the story

    Day 4 of the India-Bangladesh 2nd Test in Kanpur was an eventful one.

    The hosts declared at 285/9 after bundling out the Tigers for 233.

    Bangladesh ended the day at 26/2 (third innings).

    Notably, the second and third days of the match got entirely washed out.

    The likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul were India's stand-out performers. Here is the day report.

    Bangladesh post a below-par total

    Bangladesh resumed at their overnight score of 107/3.

    While Mominul Haque continued the good work and brought up a fine hundred, he didn't receive the required support.

    None of his teammates could even touch the 35-run mark as they were folded for 233 shortly after the second session.

    It was a combined effort from the Indian team bowlers.

    13th Test ton for Mominul

    Mominul Haque returned unbeaten on 107 off 194 balls with the help of 17 fours and 1 six.

    Standing in his 65th Test, he has raced to 4,263 runs at 38.75.

    Besides 13 Test tons, he also owns 19 fifties.

    This was only his second away century in Tests.

    Against India, he has raced to 322 runs at 29.27 (100: 1, 50: 1).

    Jadeja

    Jadeja became third Indian with this feat

    With his only scalp in the first innings, Ravindra Jadeja became the seventh Indian with 300 wickets in Test cricket.

    He also became only the third Indian with the double of 300 wickets and 3,000 runs in Test cricket.

    Jadeja averages 24 with the ball in Test cricket as his tally includes 13 fifers and a couple of match 10-wicket hauls.

    Bumrah

    A fine spell from Bumrah

    Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3/50 in 18 overs.

    Playing his 38th Test, Bumrah has raced to 167 wickets at 20.44.

    The Indian pacer owns 10 fifers in this format. Against Bangladesh, he owns eight wickets at 15.50, as per ESPNcricinfo.

    The speedster has now completed 41 wickets across 10 home Tests at 16.19. The tally includes two fifers.

    With his final scalp, Bumrah became the first bowler to complete 50 international wickets in 2024. He accomplished the feat in just 21 innings at a jaw-dropping average of 13.10. The tally includes 35 Test and 15 T20I wickets.

    Ashwin

    Ravichandran Ashwin scripts this record

    With his second and final wicket in the first innings, Ravichandran Ashwin completed 50 wickets in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship cycle (2023-25).

    He thus became the first-ever bowler to grab 50-plus wickets in each of the three WTC editions.

    Overall, Ashwin has raced to 526 Test wickets at 23-plus. Notably, he got two wickets in the third innings as well.

    Rohit Sharma (23) and Jaiswal kicked off their innings with a bang, racking up 50 runs in just three overs.

    The likes of Shubman Gill (39) and Virat Kohli (47) also batted with intent but missed out on fifties.

    KL Rahul (68) dominated the last two hours of play as the hosts finished at 285/9d. Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz claimed four-fers.

    Yashasvi Jaiswal breaks Virender Sehwag's record

    Jaiswal set a new record by becoming the fastest Indian opener to score a half-century in Test cricket.

    The 22-year-old reached his 50 off just 31 balls, surpassing the previous record held by legendary cricketer Virender Sehwag (32 balls).

    As per ESPNcricinfo, only Rishabh Pant (28) and Kapil Dev (30) have scored quicker Test fifties for India. Jaiswal matched Shardul Thakur's record.

    Stellar run in Test cricket

    Jaiswal ended up scoring 72 off just 51 balls, slamming 12 fours and two sixes.

    As per ESPNcricinfo, the left-handed batter has raced to 1,166 runs in just 11 Tests at 68.58.

    His tally includes three tons, six half-centuries, and a double-ton. Jaiswal has an astronomical average of 77.27 in home Tests.

    He owns two tons and five fifties in this regard.

    Team India scripts these records

    Team India broke the records of the fastest team 50, 100, 150, and 200 in Test cricket.

    Rohit and Jaiswal powered India to the 50-run milestone in just three overs.

    The hosts reached the triple-digit score in 10.1 overs, beating their own record.

    The team reached the 150-run landmark in just 18.2 overs. India later completed 200 runs in just 24.2 overs.

    Kohli 

    Kohli becomes fastest-ever batter to 27,000 international runs

    Virat Kohli became fastest to complete 27,000 international runs, breaking legend Sachin Tendulkar's record.

    Kohli reached the landmark in 593 innings. He departed for 47 off 35 balls.

    With this knock, he has raced to 4,918 Test runs at 48.73. Overall, he has raced to 27,012 international runs at 53.17.

    Shakib 

    Shakib closing in on 250 Test wickets 

    Shakib finished with 4/78 in his 11-over spell.

    He has now raced to 246 wickets across 71 Tests at 31.65, as per ESPNcricinfo.

    The tally includes 19 fifers. Against India, he has completed 25 Test wickets at a higher average of 40.16.

    83 of Shakib's Test wickets have come away from home at 33.07. He also boasts over 4,600 Test runs.

    Mehidy 

    Fine spell from Mehidy as well 

    Mehidy meanwhile finished with 6/41 in 6.4 overs.

    With this spell, he has completed 181 wickets across 47 matches at 32.67. He has 10 fifers to his name.

    He has 79 Test wickets away from home at a higher average of 41.58.

    Against India, he has taken 21 wickets as his average reads 41. Notably, Mehidy has also scored over 1,600 Test runs.

    Rahul

    A scintillating knock from Rahul 

    Rahul slammed a quickfire half-century. He eventually finished with a 43-ball 68.

    Rahul has slammed his 15th half-century in Test cricket.

    The batter, who has cemented his spot as a middle-order batter in the format, now has 2,969 from 52 games at an average of 34.52.

    His tally also includes eight tons. He now has 1,137 runs in home Tests at 42.11.
