    What's the story

The International Cricket Council (ICC) thanked the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for successfully hosting the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

It was Pakistan's first global cricket tournament in nearly two decades (since 1996) and was played across three venues - Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi in Pakistan.

India beat New Zealand in a thrilling final at the Dubai International Stadium on March 9, concluding the tournament. Notably, India played their matches in Dubai due to political tensions.

    Acknowledgment

PCB's efforts recognized by ICC Chief Executive

ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice lauded the PCB for their immense contribution to the tournament's success.

He said, "As this was the first global multi-team cricket event played in the country since 1996, this event was of huge significance for PCB."

Allardice also appreciated those who renovated stadiums, prepared playing surfaces, delivered matches and hosted teams and visitors for their hard work.

    ECB recognition

ICC appreciates Emirates Cricket Board's support

Apart from recognizing PCB, Allardice also thanked Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) for hosting five matches in Dubai.

He said, "The ICC would also like to thank the Emirates Cricket Board for staging five of the matches in Dubai and continuing to provide great support to the ICC in staging its major men's and women's events."

This further highlights the teamwork that played a huge role in making this event a success.

    Global impact

Allardice also credited the eight sides for making the tournament compelling. He congratulated India on winning its third Champions Trophy title.

The ICC Chief emphasized that "the tournament once again showed the importance of ICC events as fans all over the world watched and followed it with great enthusiasm either at venues or on satellite/digital channels."

This highlights how such global sporting events promote international engagement and excitement among cricket fans across the globe.

Pakistan's early exit from Champions Trophy

As mentioned, Pakistan hosted their first ICC tournament since 1996. However, they crashed out of the group stage without a win.

Further, Pakistan played only one game on home soil, the tournament opener against New Zealand. Their match against India was held in Dubai, while the Bangladesh match at home was washed out.

Meanwhile, India claimed their third Champions Trophy title after beating New Zealand in the final.
