Rohit Sharma reveals his responsibility towards India and Virat Kohli

    What's the story

Virat Kohli is one of India's most successful ODI skippers. On the field, he is ably guided by both legend MS Dhoni and vice-captain Rohit Sharma.

Rohit has even led the team on many occasions, since 2017, whenever Kohli has been handed a rest.

In the same light, Rohit has said it is his duty and responsibility to stand by Kohli during tense situations.

    Quote

Rohit claims to have always helped Kohli

"Being a vice-captain, it is my responsibility to stand by him (Virat Kohli) and help him when he is in doubt. That is what we have done in the last few years," Rohit was quoted as saying to India Today.

    Inspiration

Rohit drew inspiration from former Indian players

Rohit said that while MS Dhoni was the captain, senior players like Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag always supported Dhoni.

They helped him with valuable suggestions when needed, especially in crunch situations.

And, now that he and Kohli have been playing together for a long time, it is his responsibility to help the skipper out, on the field.

    Quote

Rohit welcomes tips and suggestions from every team player

"The team is not built from a single player; it belongs to all the 15 members who are playing. So if any of the team members want to come and give any suggestion, it is for the good of the team," Rohit further stated.

    Captain Rohit

Rohit has led India to title wins

Rohit made his debut as Indian skipper during the 2017 home series against Sri Lanka, where he propelled the side to a 2-1 series win.

He had also led the side in Asia Cup 2018, where India were crowned the champions.

He even captained during the final two ODIs in New Zealand this year, where he won and lost apiece.

    What's next?

Rohit eyes IPL and World Cup success

As of now, Rohit is playing the IPL 2019, where he is leading Mumbai Indians.

He would want to lead his side to a record-breaking fourth title.

Following the end of the IPL, he would instantly switch focus to the Indian team.

He would be aiming to lift his maiden World Cup title, while it would be his second appearance in the 50-over carnival.
