    What's the story

25-year-old men's shuttler HS Prannoy progressed to the second round of the All England Open being held in Birmingham.

Prannoy sealed victory after a hard-fought encounter spread over three games.

The player stunned world number 8 Chou Tien-chen 9-21, 21-18, 21-18 to join Kidambi Srikanth and PV Sindhu in the next round.

Prannoy will next face Indonesia's Tommy Sugiarto.

    Information

    Prannoy battles past recent injury

The world number 12 had suffered a corn infection on his foot during the Premier Badminton League and he could barely walk for a few weeks. He started training a few weeks ago. To beat Chou, who won German Open recently, is a monumental achievement.

    Information

    Joy for Indian men's doubles

The doubles pair of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy marked their All England Open debut with a 21-19, 21-18 win over Japan's Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi. The world number 21 combination will next take on second seeds Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen.
