    What's the story

Co-hosts USA beat Canada in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup opener at the Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas.

Aaron Jones and Andries Gous hammered fifties as the United States chased down 195 to record a win on their T20 World Cup debut.

This is now the third-highest successful run-chase in the tournament's history.

Have a look at the highest targets chased down.

230: England vs South Africa, Wankhede, 2016

The 2016 T20 World Cup encounter between England and South Africa at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, saw records aplenty.

South Africa became only the second side to crack the 220+ total in T20 WC history, after Sri Lanka. They racked up a mammoth 229/4 in 20 overs.

However, Joe Root's 44-ball 83 helped England chase it down in 19.4 overs.

206: South Africa vs West Indies, Johannesburg, 2007

The first-ever T20 World Cup encounter back in 2007 saw both West Indies and South Africa score in excess of 200 runs.

Opener Chris Gayle slammed a historic century as WI posted 205/6 in 20 overs.

Herschelle Gibbs (90* off 55 balls) and Justin Kemp (46* off 22 balls) later hammered the Caribbean bowlers, with the Proteas chasing it down in 17.4 overs.

195: USA vs Canada, Dallas, 2024

As mentioned, USA recorded the third-highest successful run-chase in the T20 World Cup.

This is also the highest successful run-chase by an associate team in the tournament's history. Before this match, the record was held by Netherlands (193/4 vs Ireland in 2014).

USA were 42/2 in 6.3 overs before Jones and Gous powered their chase. The United States got home in 17.4 overs.

    #4

193: West Indies vs India, Wankhede, 2016

West Indies scripted an incredible 193-run chase in the 2016 T20 World Cup semi-final against hosts India at the Wankhede Stadium.

Although WI lost two early wickets, Lendl Simmons rescued them with a breathtaking knock. He smashed a match-winning 82*(51), a knock laced with seven boundaries and five maximums.

The Caribbeans hence claimed a memorable seven-wicket triumph.
