    What's the story

    Gujarat Titans floored the Chennai Super Kings in Match 59 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season on Friday.

    The Titans rode on a defining 210-run opening stand between Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan to post 231/3 in 20 overs.

    Both batters smashed respective centuries. In response, CSK (196/8) faltered in the run-chase.

    Pacer Mohit Sharma (3/31) was excellent for GT.

    Gill and Sudharsan maintained a solid tempo for GT on a good batting deck.

    The CSK bowlers were left clueless as the massacre continued from both batters.

    Gill got to his century first in the 17th over with a four. In the final ball of the same over, Sudharsan got to his maiden ton with a six. Tushar Deshpande dismissed both players thereafter.

    CSK were off to a horrible start and were 10/3 in 2.5 overs. A fine partnership followed between Daryl Mitchell and Moeen Ali that helped the visitors.

    Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja got going from the start. However, their dismissals ended CSK's charge.

    He registered his 24th fifty-plus score (50s: 20).

    Gill smacked his 6th T20 century. He has matched the tallies of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav (6 each) in terms of T20 tons by Indian players.

    Kohli owns nine T20 tons and is ahead of Rohit Sharma (8). Gill now owns 4,228 runs in the 20-over format.

    In addition to his six centuries, he has clobbered 24 fifties.

    Gill clobbered his fourth T20 century at this venue. He also owns four half-centuries. The star opener has smacked 95 fours and 44 sixes.

    Sai Sudharsan becomes second GT player with an IPL ton

    Sudharsan has joined Gill (4) in terms of owning an IPL century for the Titans. Sudharsan has also joined Gill in terms of 1,000-plus IPL runs for the franchise.

    Sudharsan attained the milestone in his 25th match. He has six half-centuries as well.

    Sudharsan has scored 1,034 runs in the cash-rich league at an average of 34.

    Sudharsan smashed 103 from 51 balls. His knock was laced with five fours and seven sixes (SR: 201.96).

    In the ongoing IPL 2024 season, Sudharsan has raced to 527 runs at an average of 50-plus.

    He owns one century and two fifties. He is the fourth player with 500-plus runs this season.

    Fastest Indian batter to 1,000 IPL runs

    Sudharsan is now the fastest Indian batter to 1,000 IPL runs. He took 25 innings, bettering the record of Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Sachin Tendulkar (31 innings each).

    Overall, Sudharsan is the joint third-fastest to 1,000 IPL runs. Shaun Marsh holds the record with 21 innings.

    Lendl Simmons is next (23 innings). Sudharsan tied Matthew Hayden's tally (25 innings). Jonny Bairstow follows suit (26).

    Partnership records

    GT's highest partnership for any wicket in the IPL

    Gill and Sudharsan's 210-run stand is GT's highest for any wicket in the competition's history.

    The previous best was 147 runs added between the pair for the second wicket against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Ahmedabad.

    This was the fourth century-plus stand between the pair. As per ESPNcricinfo, this was GT's maiden century-plus stand against CSK in the IPL.

    GT's 231/3 saw them equal the highest team total against CSK in the IPL. Punjab Kings managed 231/4 in the IPL 2014 season

    This was GT's second-highest IPL total. Their best score is 233/3 vs Mumbai Indians, Ahmedabad, 2023.

    Gill and Sudharsan posted the fourth-best partnership in IPL (any wicket).

    GT's 58/0 is their second-highest powerplay score this season and highest batting first.

    As per Cricbuzz, for the third time, there were two individual hundreds in the same IPL innings after RCB vs GL, Bengaluru, 2016 and SRH vs RCB, Hyderabad, 2019.

    Daryl Mitchell scores 63 for CSK

    CSK's Mitchell scored a powerful 63 from 34 balls. He smashed seven fours and three sixes (SR: 185.29).

    Mitchell shared a 109-run stand for the third wicket alongside Moeen.

    In 11 matches for CSK this season, Mitchell owns 292 runs at 32.44 (SR: 143.13). He hit his second fifty.

    Overall, Mitchell has 325 IPL runs from 13 matches at 29.54.

    Moeen

    Moeen shines with a 56-run knock

    Moeen hit a solid 56 from 36 balls. His knock was laced with four fours and four sixes (SR: 155.56).

    Playing his 66th IPL match, Moeen has 1,152 runs at 23.04. He smashed his sixth half-century.

    For CSK, Moeen has amassed 843 runs from 47 matches at 24.08 (50s: 3).

    Moeen registered his maiden fifty this season (4 innings). He owns 118 runs.

    250 IPL sixes for MS Dhoni

    MS Dhoni scored an unbeaten 11-ball 26*. He smashed three sixes and a four (SR: 236.36).

    Dhoni has now become just the fifth batter to complete 250 sixes in the IPL.

    Dhoni (251 sixes) took 262 games to complete 250 maximums in the competition.

    He joined Chris Gayle (357), Rohit Sharma (276), AB de Villiers (251) and Virat Kohli (264).
