    What's the story

Sebastian Vettel has become a mere shadow of himself and time is quickly passing by.

The four-time Formula 1 champion has fallen behind the ranks in 2019.

The Ferrari driver endured a horrible race at the British Grand Prix on Sunday. He rammed into Red Bull's Max Verstappen, denying him a podium finish.

Post this incident, Vettel apologized to Verstappen.

    Vettel keeps committing errors

Vettel, who has been making a series of mistakes since last year, misjudged a passing move on Verstappen.

He ended up ramming into the back of the Dutchman's Red Bull.

Notably, since winning the British GP in 2018, Vettel has now committed errors in seven races in a row.

This all points out to Vettel enduring a tough time this year.

    Woes

    Season almost over for Vettel

The penalty saw Vettel lose substantial ground as he ended 16th at Silverstone.

    Meanwhile, Verstappen finished fifth.

Red Bull took home points from both their drivers with Pierre Gasly taking the fourth position.

For Ferrari, Charles Leclerc finished third.

Race winner and championship leader Lewis Hamilton has opened up a 100-point gap over Vettel, who also got a two-point penalty for the accident.

    Verstappen confirms Vettel apology

"I spoke to him, he apologized immediately after he got out of the car, so that's it. You can't change your line," said Verstappen after the race.

    Crash

Vettel highlights how the crash happened

Vettel gave a summary of the crash and said, "Obviously, he passed me and then ran a bit wide, which gave me the chance to come back. Then, it looked for a second that he was going to the right and there would be a gap to the left, which didn't open - and by that time it was too late and I crashed."
