    What's the story

British tennis sensation, Emma Raducanu, is set to compete in a qualifying draw (WTA) for the first time since her historic 2021 US Open victory.

She has received a wildcard entry into the preliminary stage of the upcoming Abu Dhabi Open.

This is a major moment in her career as she makes her way through a series of tournaments after her Grand Slam triumph.

    Career progression

Raducanu's journey to Abu Dhabi Open

Currently ranked 56th in the world, Raducanu will be accompanied by her fitness trainer Yutaka Nakamura for the tournament.

However, she will be without a coach as Nick Cavaday recently resigned due to health issues.

Despite this setback, the young athlete has shown resilience and determination in her pursuit of tennis excellence.

    Tournament strategy

Raducanu's performance and outlook on qualifying draws

Raducanu's recent outings include a third-round exit at the 2025 Australian Open and a first-round loss to Cristina Bucsa at the Singapore Open.

Despite the results, she is hopeful of entering qualifying draws. In an earlier interview with BBC Sport, Raducanu said, "I think playing qualies is not something that I am against."

She feels it can give her valuable court time and improve her game.

    Tournament lineup

Raducanu to face high-ranked players in Abu Dhabi Open

The Abu Dhabi Open will see a number of high-ranked players, including fifth-ranked Elena Rybakina and Paula Badosa, the 2025 Australian Open semi-finalist.

British star Katie Boulter is also among those who have made it to the main draw.

Raducanu's first match in the WTA 500 event will be on Saturday when the qualifying rounds begin.
