'Spotlight is unnecessary' - Sri Lankan great on Kohli's form

    What's the story

Former Sri Lankan cricket captain Arjuna Ranatunga has weighed in on the constant scrutiny of Indian cricketer Virat Kohli's performance.

He feels the excessive focus on Kohli is unwarranted and that the player should be given autonomy to decide his future.

This comes amid Kohli's recent struggles with the bat, which have raised questions about his position in the team.

    Here are further details.

    Performance review

    Kohli's recent performance raises concerns

Kohli's recent form has been dismal, with a disappointing outing in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

His return to the domestic circuit through the Ranji Trophy was also disappointing as he managed to score just six runs for Delhi.

The ODI series against England witnessed the continuation of this poor form, with Kohli getting out for a paltry five runs in Cuttack after missing Nagpur match due to injury.

    Expert advice

Ranatunga suggests Kohli seek advice from Indian legends

Ranatunga has now suggested Kohli take advice from Indian cricket legends like Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, or Rahul Dravid to get back to form.

He feels these veterans could offer valuable advice to help Kohli get back on track.

"I think what Kohli needs to do is speak to people like Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar or a Rahul Dravid. They can certainly help him out," Ranatunga told The Telegraph.

    Optimism

Ranatunga optimistic about Kohli and Sharma's form

Despite their recent struggles, Ranatunga is still optimistic about both Kohli and Rohit Sharma's ability to bounce back.

He feels it's just a matter of one good innings for them to regain their rhythm.

"Given their stature and the kind of batsmen they have been, I feel it's a matter of one good innings to regain their rhythm," said Ranatunga.
