2024 Women's T20 World Cup: Harmanpreet Kaur to lead India
Harmanpreet Kaur would once again lead Team India in the impending ICC Women's T20 World Cup scheduled to be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the 15-player squad on August 27. Star batters Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, and Jemimah Rodrigues among others are included in the side. Team India's squad for 2024 Women's T20 World Cup: Harmanpreet Kaur (captain), Smriti Mandhana (vice-captain), Shafali Verma, Deepti Sharma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh (wicket-keeper), Yastika Bhatia (wicket-keeper), Pooja Vastrakar, Arundhati Reddy, Renuka Singh Thakur, Dayalan Hemalatha, Asha Sobhana, Radha Yadav, Shreyanka Patil, and Sajana Sajeevan. Yastika Bhatia, Shreyaka Patil included despite fitness concerns
Wicketkeeper-batter Yastika Bhatia and spin-bowling all-rounder Shreyaka Patil have also been included in India's T20 World Cup squad. However, their participation is subject to is subject to fitness clearance. Notably, Shreyanka suffered a fracture to her left hand during the Women's Asia Cup.
UAE replaces original host Bangladesh for WT20 WC
The ICC recently announced that UAE will be the new host for the Women's T20 World Cup. The decision comes after political unrest in Bangladesh led to a change in venue. Despite Sheikh Hasina's resignation as Prime Minister and departure from Bangladesh, the situation remained unstable, prompting ICC to shift the tournament location. The competition is set to commence on October 3.
