    What's the story

Bayern Munich dropped points against SC Freiburg on matchday 24 of the Bundesliga 2023-24 season.

Bayern were held 2-2 by hosts Freiburg with Lucas Holer scoring in the 87th minute just when the former had gone 2-1 up in the 75th minute.

By losing two points, their quest for the league title has taken a further jolt. Here are the key stats.

    Details

Bayern are seven points adrift of leaders Leverkusen

After 24 matches, Bayern have collected 54 points and find themselves seven points below leaders Bayer Leverkusen, who are in action later.

Bayern played out their third draw this season (W17 L4). Leverkusen, who are unbeaten so far, could extend their lead by 10 points if they win versus when they face Koln on Sunday.

Leverkusen have 61 points after 23 matches.

    Information

Bayern have surrendered a position of promise

Bayern have lost twice and drawn once now in their last four league games, dropping eight points. With no room for error, the Bavarians have allowed Leverkusen to get a free walk. If Bayern had won these matches, they would have been ahead for now.

    Information

A look at the match stats

Bayern clocked 20 attempts with eight shots on target. SC Freiburg had six shots on target from 17 attempts. Bayern dominated possession, managing 62% and had an 88% pass accuracy.

    Match

How did the match pan out?

SC Freiburg went ahead with Christian Gunter scoring in the 12th minute. Mathys Tel equalized for the visitors next in the 35th minute with a thunderous effort from inside the box.

Jamal Musiala handed Bayern a 2-1 lead when he drove into the box and surged ahead, beating several players before bending his shot.

However, Holer handed Freiburg a valuable point late on.

    Records

Contrasting records for the two teams

Before this 2-2 draw, the Bavarians had won each of their last six Bundesliga matches against SC Freiburg.

As per Opta, this was Bayern's 2,000th Bundesliga match. Bayern have won 1,206 matches, besides drawing 431 and losing 363.

Freiburg are winless in six Bundesliga games (D2 L4). Bayern are winless in four successive away matches in all competitions (L3).
