    Australia beat England in the fourth Ashes 2019 Test to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.

    With this victory, the Aussies have successfully retained the urn.

    Australia had set England a target of 383.

    The hosts, who resumed at 18/2 on Day 5, fell short of the same.

    Here are the records that were broken in the fourth Test.

    Majestic Smith notches a host of records

    Australian superstar Steve Smith piled up 211 runs in the first innings.

    This was his 26th career Test ton. He equaled Gary Sobers with this tally.

    He scored 82 next.

    This was his 26th career Test fifty.

    Smith has 671 runs in Ashes 2019 that includes five successive fifty-plus scores.

    He became the first batsman to score 500+ runs in three successive Ashes series.

    Smith now has 2,697 career Ashes runs.

    He is eighth on the list for most runs amassed.

    Smith has 11 Ashes tons and eight fifties to his name at 65.78.

    The right-handed batsman also registered his ninth successive fifty-plus score in Ashes.

    Smith is the second quickest to 26 career Test hundreds (121).

    He achieved his 11th Ashes hundred in his 45th inning.

    Labuschagne notches fourth successive Ashes fifty

    Marnus Labuschagne scored 67 in the first innings. This was his fourth successive Ashes 2019 fifty. The batsman also notched his fifth career Test fifty. He also went past 500 runs in Tests (501).

    Warner scripts an unwanted record

    David Warner registered a pair at Old Trafford in Manchester.

    This was his third successive duck in Ashes 2019.

    He has become Stuart Broad's bunny, who has dismissed him six times in Ashes 2019 and 11th overall in Tests.

    Warner became the third batsman to be dismissed six times by the same bowler in one series for less than 10 runs.

    Broad races to 463 career Test wickets

    Broad claimed five scalps in the fourth Test. He has raced to 19 wickets in Ashes 2019. The veteran Englishman has 463 career Test scalps. He is now the joint-eighth highest wicket-taker in Ashes history (114) alongside former Aussie Ray Lindwall.

    England skipper Root registers these records

    Joe Root scored 71 in the first innings. This was his 44th career Test fifty.

    He also went past Mike Gatting in terms of career Ashes runs.

    Root scored a duck in the second innings. This was his third Ashes duck and the eighth one in Test cricket.

    Rory Burns (81) notched his fifth career Test fifty and a third of the series.

    Lyon goes past Laker, Cummins extends his lead in 2019

    Nathan Lyon now has 81 career Ashes wickets. He went past former England great Jim Laker (79). Pat Cummins picked up seven wickets. He now has 24 wickets in Ashes 2019. He has also raced to 38 Test scalps this year to extend the lead.

    How did the fourth Test match pan out?

    Australia scored 497/8 in the first innings with Smith leading the way.

    He shared two century-plus stands with Labuschagne and Tim Paine respectively.

    England responded with 301 after Burns and Root scored impressive fifties.

    Australia battled hard in the second innings but did enough to set a huge target.

    England were always going to be behind and they lost the tie by 185 runs.
