Is Xiaomi's Redmi K20 Pro better than OnePlus 7 Pro?

    What's the story

Taking on the ultra-premium OnePlus 7 Pro, Xiaomi has launched the all-new Redmi K20 Pro in India.

The new contender takes on the popular OnePlus flagship with a premium all-screen-all-glass design, 48MP triple-lens rear camera, and flagship-grade internals.

But is the budget-friendly Xiaomi flagship better than the OnePlus 7 Pro which has actually raised the bar for Apple and Samsung?

    Here's our comparison.

    Design

    Redmi K20 v/s OnePlus 7 Pro: At a glance

Both the handsets offer a notch-less, bezel-less all-screen design with rounded edges, square-ish pop-up selfie cameras, a metal-glass sandwiched body, and gradient finish on the rear.

However, the OnePlus 7 Pro offers curved screen edges along with built-in liquid-cooling system while the Redmi K20 Pro settles for a flat screen and a double-sided heat dissipation structure.

    Winner: You be the judge.

    Display

    All about the screen

The Redmi K20 sports a 6.39-inch AMOLED display with a Full-HD+ resolution of 2340x1080 pixels and HDR support. It also comes with Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

In comparison, the OnePlus 7 Pro offers an HDR10+ compatible 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a QHD+ (1440x3120 pixels) resolution and Gorilla Glass 6 protection. Further, the 90Hz refresh rate makes everything fluid and smooth.

    Winner: OnePlus 7 Pro.

    Primary Camera

    For the shutterbugs

    In terms of optics, the K20 Pro houses a triple-lens rear camera featuring a 48MP (f/1.75) main sensor, a 13MP (f/2.4) wide-angle sensor, and an 8MP (f/2.4) telephone sensor with 2x zoom.

The OnePlus 7 Pro also offers a similar setup but with a 48MP (f/1.6) main lens, an 8MP telephoto lens with 3x zoom, and a 16MP wide-angle lens.

    Winner: OnePlus 7 Pro.

    Selfie Camera

    For the love of selfies

Both flagship phones feature motorized pop-up cameras, with OnePlus 7 Pro packing a 16MP sensor and Redmi K20 Pro housing a 20MP sensor. They also come with a drop detection feature wherein the camera automatically retracts in case of a fall.

However, the pop-up mechanism on the OnePlus handset is noticeably faster which translates to a quicker face unlock as well.

    Winner: OnePlus contender.

    Internals

    All the important stuff

The Redmi K20 Pro is backed by Qualcomm's flagship 7nm Snapdragon 855 chipset, paired with 6GB/8GB RAM and 128GB/256GB of storage.

In comparison, the OnePlus 7 Pro is backed by the same Snapdragon 855 processor but with upto 12GB RAM and 128GB/256GB of UFS 3.0 storage.

Winner: OnePlus 7 Pro for offering higher RAM options and debuting the industry-leading mobile storage format.

    Nitty-gritty

    From battery to biometrics

While both smartphones pack 4,000mAh batteries, the OnePlus 7 Pro offers 30W charging whereas Redmi K20 supports 27W fast charging.

Further, both handsets feature optical in-display fingerprint readers but the unlocking experience on OnePlus 7 Pro is faster.

Lastly, the OnePlus flagship also offers dual stereo speakers while Xiaomi's challenger settles with a single bottom-firing speaker.

    Winner: OnePlus 7 Pro.

    Information

    Pricing: The key factor

The OnePlus 7 Pro starts at Rs. 48,999 for the 6GB/128GB model and goes upto Rs. 57,999 for the 12GB/256GB variant. In comparison, the Redmi K20 Pro costs Rs. 27,999 for the 6GB/128GB variant and Rs. 30,999 for the top-end model with 8GB/256GB configuration.

    Our result

    How things stack up!

With a simply brilliant display, respectable cameras, and unmatchable speed, the OnePlus 7 Pro is a top-notch performer.

In contrast, the Xiaomi handset does miss out on a higher resolution screen, bundled fast charger, and faster storage.

But given the steep price difference, we'd have to side with the Redmi K20 Pro which checks all the right boxes for even the most-demanding smartphone needs.
