    What's the story

As a successor to the Mi Max 2, Xiaomi has launched its latest phablet, the Mi Max 3.

And when we look at the two phones, there are quite a few visual and internal changes.

On the outside, Mi Max 3 gets a bigger screen, rear-dual cameras while under the hood, you have bumped up specs.

Here's a look at some of the differences.

    Design & Display

    At a glance

Up front, Mi Max 3 offers more screen real-estate which Xiaomi has achieved by shaving-off the thick bezels found on Mi Max 2. This also allows for a taller aspect of 18:9 on Mi Max 3 than 16:9 found on its predecessor.

    Mi Max 3 sports a 6.9-inch full-HD+ (1080x2160 pixels) panel while the Mi Max 2 has a 6.44-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) screen.

    Primary Camera

    For the shutterbugs

On the rear, Mi Max 3 gets a dual-camera setup as against a single camera found on the Mi Max 2.

In terms of specs, the Mi Max 3 gets a 12MP+5MP setup, with an f/1.9 aperture, dual-LED flash, and an AI portrait mode - the in-trend software enhancement.

The Mi Max 2 comes with a single 12MP camera with PDAF and dual-LED flash.

    Information

    For the love of Selfies

On the front as well, the Mi Max 3 gets a superior camera with an 8-megapixel sensor having an f/2.0 aperture, face recognition capabilities, and soft-light selfie flash. In comparison, the Mi Max 2 has a 5-megapixel selfie sensor.

    Internals

    All the important stuff

Under the hood, Mi Max 3 gets an upgrade with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor, coupled with 4GB/6GB RAM and 64GB/128GB of storage (expandable up to 256GB).

In comparison, the Mi Max 2 comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset, paired with 4GB/6GB RAM and 64GB/128GB of storage.

Mi Max 3 also has a slightly bigger 5,500mAh battery as against 5,300mAh battery on Mi Max 2.

    Details

    Staying connected

In terms of software, both devices run on Xiaomi MIUI which is based on Android. Hence, UX will be more or less the same on both Mi Max 2 and its successor.

In terms of connectivity options, both phones come with 4G VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11a/c, Bluetooth (v5.0 on Max 3, v4.2 on Max 2), GPS/A-GPS, GLONASS, USB Type-C, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

    Our result

    How things stack up!

If you are looking to buy a phablet, Mi Max 3 is surely a better option over Mi Max 2.

With a newer design, bigger display, taller aspect ratio and upgraded internals, Mi Max 3 is a no-brainer.

However, the phone is yet to arrive in India and its pricing will be a deciding factor.
