    What's the story

Swedish carmaker Volvo has launched its first-ever small SUV, the Volvo XC40, in India.

Priced at Rs. 39.90 lakh (ex-showroom), the XC40 is available in only R-Design trim with a diesel engine.

The XC40 is the third SUV in the company's India portfolio and joins the mid-level Volvo XC60 and high-end Volvo XC90.

Here's more about the Volvo XC40.

    Interiors

XC40's infotainment system gets support for Apple CarPlay, Android Auto

On the inside, the 5-seater XC40 gets dual-tone upholstery in Black and Lava Red colors.

The cabin also features a 9-inch Sensus system that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 750-watt 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, heated front and rear seats, an electronically powered tailgate and wireless charging for smartphones.

In terms of boot space, the compact SUV offers a capacity of 460-liters.

    Exteriors

The XC40 borrows styling statements from its elder siblings

The XC40 borrows style statements from its elder siblings, the XC60 and XC90. It sports a massive front black grille, iconic "Thor hammer" LED headlights, L-shaped LED tail lights and twin-chrome exhausts.

The R-Design trim SUV also gets 18-inch alloy wheels, smoked headlamps, a black roof with blackened A-pillars, black door-view mirrors and a two-tone paintwork to complement the overall design.

    Information

The XC40 packs a ton of safety features

Volvo cars are known to be high on passenger safety and the Swedish carmaker has made no exceptions with its XC40 SUV. The car includes cross-traffic alert, auto-brakes, a 360-degree camera setup and lane-keeping assist, pilot assist, emergency braking, and eight airbags among other features.

    Engine and Power

    Under the hood

As stated earlier, Volvo is offering XC40 only with a diesel engine option.

The XC40 is powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that generates 187 bhp of maximum power and 400 Nm of peak torque.

This engine comes mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox with All Wheel Drive (AWD) being offered as a standard feature.
