    What's the story

As the successor to the notch-less Vivo Nex with a pop-up selfie camera, the Chinese tech giant is working to launch Vivo Nex Dual Display Edition in China on December 11.

The phone, which has been teased in official images and leaked on several occasions, will feature dual displays, and top-end specs to make it the most high-tech smartphone of 2018.

    Here's all about it.

    Design & display

Vivo Nex Dual Display Edition is inspired by Nubia X

Inspired by ZTE's Nubia X, the Vivo Nex Dual Display will sport a notch-less edge-to-edge 6.59-inch main screen and a secondary 5.5-inch display on the back.

The phone will use screen sound casting tech to relay phone call sounds (no visible earpiece) and sensors will possibly be concealed under the screen.

Further, the device will also feature an in-display fingerprint scanner.

    Just swipe

Here's how to toggle between the main and secondary display

To toggle between the main and secondary display, you will have to simply do a three-finger swipe gesture on the active screen.

This means if you're on the main display, you can do a three-finger swipe to activate the rear-display and vice-versa.

The rear-display will serve as a viewfinder when taking selfies as there is no dedicated front camera on the phone.

Vivo Nex Dual Display Edition to feature triple rear-cameras

The upcoming Vivo flagship will sport a triple camera setup on the rear which will also be used for selfies.

The main sensor is rumored to have an ultra-fast f/1.3 aperture, making it the first smartphone to feature such a wide aperture.

Further, we see a circular LED ring on the rear which could work for notifications and possibly as selfie flash as well.

    Internals

    Under the hood

The phone was recently spotted on GeekBench - a cross-platform processor benchmark.

According to the GeekBench listing, the Vivo Dual Display Edition will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset, paired with 10GB of RAM and will run Android Pie out of the box.

In terms of scores, the device managed a single-core score of 2,220 and a multi-core score of 8,467.

    Technicality

    And, what are GeekBench's scores?

GeekBench is a cross-platform processor benchmark platform which grades processors on their single-core and multi-core performances.

While calculating multi-core scores, GeekBench runs multiple streams of instructions simultaneously per core and reports an aggregate score.

With single-core scores, the same process is applied but on a single core.

Notably, the quicker a CPU completes the instructions, the higher is its GeekBench score.
