Top 5 Android features we want to see on iOS

    What's the story

I love Apple's mobile software. And I say that as someone who has been using it since the iPhone 4.

However, when compared to Android, we all know it eclipses iOS in many ways. It does a lot of things right, and in most cases, does them better than iOS.

Here are top 5 features that, in my view, can make iOS better.

    Feature #1

Freedom to customize my iPhone's appearance

When it comes to customizing the home screen on an iPhone, iOS is so rigid that it starts to feel annoying.

On the other hand, Android lets you place whichever apps you want on the home screen while neatly storing others in a quickly accessible app drawer.

Moreover, you can change app sizes/icons, themes, and even have widgets on the home screen.

    Feature #2

Apple, take note: Improved app and call notifications

While Apple has overhauled its notification system, it is still not up to the mark.

However, Android has aced notification management. It allows you to control the kind of notifications you want and even lets you snooze them.

For incoming call notifications, if you're in an app, iOS hijacks the whole screen till the call ends while Android shows a small, dismissible banner.

    Feature #3

    Ability to hide the notch-potch

While a screen notch allows for minimal bezels and thus increased screen area, it is a design compromise that almost all OEMs have given in to.

However, Apple, which had set the trend with its iPhone X, continues to force people to accept the notch.

By contrast, Android allows users to hide the notch in case they want to.

    Feature #4

    Native dual screen: Why not?

Although Apple offers a split-screen feature on iPads, it doesn't treat its taller iPhones in the same way.

In comparison, Android phones offer a split screen feature and almost all popular apps are compatible. Hence, you can WhatsApp with friends while enjoying YouTube.

And while not everyone may like the idea of a split screen, it's better to let the customers make those choices.

    Feature #5

Better file management, always-on display, and clear all apps button

Now, we can count several more customizable features, but there are three notable things that iOS can borrow from Android to get better.

Firstly, a clear all button in app switcher as iOS still lets you clear only one app at a time.

Further, iOS can benefit from an improved Files app or File Manager.

Lastly, iPhones with OLED screens should get Always-On Display.
