    What's the story

The Lok Sabha election of 2024 is underway, and citizens across India are preparing to cast their votes in the third phase.

This stage includes 94 constituencies spanning 12 states and UTs, with crores of voters expected to participate.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has made it crucial for voters to know how to find their specific polling booth online.

    Importance

Role of EPIC in voter identification

The Election Photo ID Card (EPIC), also called Voter ID card, plays a pivotal role in the voting process.

This card comprises a unique 10-digit alphanumeric code issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

This code is proof of voter registration status, and is prominently displayed on the front of the Voter ID card.

Voters can also get this code from the National Voters Service Portal (NVSP).

    Steps

How to retrieve EPIC number online?

To retrieve the EPIC number online, voters need to visit the official NVSP website, and navigate to the 'Services' section.

Here, two options are offered: 'Search by Details' and 'Search by Mobile.'

For 'Search by Details,' voters must enter all necessary information along with a captcha code.

For 'Search by Mobile,' a registered mobile phone number and captcha code are required, followed by an OTP verification process.

    Method

Using EPIC number to find polling booth

Once the EPIC number is obtained, voters can find out their designated polling booth, by visiting electoralsearch.eci.gov.in.

After entering the EPIC code, selecting the state, and inputting a captcha code, voters can click on 'Search.'

The details of the assigned polling booth, corresponding to the provided EPIC code, will then be displayed.

This information allows voters to plan their voting day effectively.
