    What's the story

Aiming to attract the younger audience, arch-rivals Samsung and Xiaomi launched their latest mid-range smartphones in India yesterday.

While Xiaomi's Redmi Note 7 Pro is looking to capitalize with a 48MP camera and all-glass gradient design, Samsung has packed three cameras and an in-display fingerprint sensor on its Galaxy A50 to woo new buyers.

But, which one is worth the money?

    Design

Galaxy A50 v/s Redmi Note 7 Pro: At a glance

Redmi Note 7 Pro sports a waterdrop notched display with a sizeable bottom bezel, an all-glass body with a gradient design, dual cameras, and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

In comparison, the Galaxy A50 features an edge-to-edge display with a slim bottom bezel, triple rear cameras and a 3D design on the plastic casing.

Winner: Redmi Note 7 Pro for its glass-body and gradient design.

    Display

    All about the screen

The Redmi Note 7 Pro features a full-HD+ 6.3-inch "Dot Notch" display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

On the other hand, the Galaxy A50 comes with a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-U screen with full-HD+ resolution and 19.5:9 aspect ratio.

Winner: Redmi Note 7 Pro. Although both displays offer the same resolution, Xiaomi's offering has better glass protection.

    Primary Camera

    For the shutterbugs

The Redmi Note 7 sports a dual rear-camera setup comprising a 48MP (effective 12MP) main sensor with f/1.8 aperture, paired with a 5MP depth sensor and LED flash.

    The Galaxy A50 comes with a triple rear-camera setup featuring a 25MP (f/1.7) main sensor, paired with a 5MP (f/2.2) depth sensor, and another 8MP (f/2.2) ultra-wide angle sensor.

Winner: Galaxy A50 for overall better optics.

    Information

    For the love of selfies

The Redmi Note 7 Pro sports a 13MP selfie camera whereas the Galaxy A50 offers a 25MP front camera with an f/2.0 aperture. Winner: Galaxy A50 for its superior camera.

    Internals

    All the important stuff

The Redmi Note 7 Pro model is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 chipset, paired with 4GB/6GB of RAM, and 64GB/128GB of internal storage (expandable upto 256GB).

In comparison, the Galaxy A50 is backed by an octa-core 9610 chipset, coupled with 4GB/6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage (expandable upto 512GB).

Winner: Galaxy A50 for its more powerful chipset and higher storage capability.

    Sensors & Software

    Lifeblood of your smartphone

Both the phones come with a standard set of sensors including an ambient light sensor, proximity sensor, and gyroscope.

However, the A50 gets an in-display fingerprint sensor while the Redmi Note 7 Pro bears a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Further, the A50 runs Android Pie-based One UI whereas Redmi Note 7 Pro runs Android Pie-based MIUI 10.

Winner: Galaxy A50 for its phone unlocking technology.

    Battery & Connectivity

    Staying connected

In terms of connectivity, both the phones offer all standard options such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB Type-C port, headphone jack, dual-SIMs, and 4G VoLTE.

In terms of battery, both Redmi Note 7 Pro and Galaxy A50 house 4,000mAh batteries with support for fast charging.

Winner: Tie, considering both the phones offer the same connectivity options and battery capacities.

    Information

    Pricing: The key factor

The Redmi Note 7 Pro costs Rs. 13,999 for the 4GB/64GB model and Rs. 16,999 for the 6GB/128GB variant. The Galaxy A50 is priced at Rs. 19,990 for the 4GB/64GB model and Rs. 22,990 for the 6GB/64GB variant.

    Our result

    How things stack up!

The Galaxy A50 is surely a more premium model with an AMOLED display, an in-screen fingerprint sensor, impressive triple cameras, and a far superior processor.

However, at a starting price of Rs. 14,999, Redmi Note 7 Pro is a better option considering its all-glass design, full-HD+ display, a good 48MP AI camera, and mid-level internals including a 4,000mAh battery.

    Winner: Redmi Note 7 Pro.
