SpaceX sends icecream to astronauts, humanity is doing it right

    What's the story

SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, which was launched on Monday, had a very unlikely cargo. Along with 6,400 pounds of cargo, live mice and science experiments, one sweet treat for the six International Space Station astronauts is also there.

Thirty small cups of ice cream are packed in three freezers for the astronauts to enjoy, while they look at Earth from outer space.

    Here's more.

    Ice cream

It's not your everyday ice cream

Usually, astronauts have to be content with pre-packaged fresh fruit or preserved foods.

However, when these people are working tirelessly to advance humanity, we do have some responsibilities. Ice-cream is for when they feel homesick or just crave for something sweet.

NASA's food scientists keep making space versions of everyday foods such as eggs, spaghetti and meat sauce and now astronauts' ice cream.

    Texture

    Good times are here

These ice creams are not something that you can buy at a store unless it's one of the Kennedy Space Center gift shops.

While it looks pretty close to an ice cream, its texture is crunchy and it's a far cry from the regular ones.

Six astronauts, 30 ice creams and 1 month time, as ISS can't keep the freezers. Let the gorging begin!

    London

    An ice cream shortage!

Meanwhile, London is having a tough time. There is apparently a global vanilla ice cream shortage and it has hit the citizens pretty bad, as the stores are running empty.

Although this may sound funny, it actually isn't. This is the result of poor harvests in Madagascar, which provides 80% of the world's vanilla pods and this scarcity has hiked its price by 500%.

    Record

Ice cream Guinness record gets broken

Since we are talking about ice cream, the record for the largest number of people eating ice cream at the same time just went from Portstewart, Northern Ireland to the Mexico City borough of Iztapalapa.

To get this yummy Guinness record for Mexico, more than 3,500 people ate ice cream together.

Indians, this is one Guinness record that needs us. Slurp!
