    What's the story

Google is developing a unique feature for its Pixel Tablet, known as "Look and Sign" (LnS).

This news comes amid rumors of the impending launch of a new generation Pixel Tablet.

The "Look and Sign" feature was revealed in a recent beta update to the Google Search app, where specific in-app texts linked to the existing "Look and Talk" feature were replaced by those tagged "LnS."

    Delay

'Look and Talk' feature yet to debut on Pixel Tablet

The "Look and Talk" feature, also known as "blue steel" or "LnT," uses the device's integrated camera to detect when a user is both staring at and speaking to the device.

Currently, this feature is available on Nest Hub Max but has not yet been introduced on the Pixel Tablet, despite evidence of its development six months ago.

    Concealed information

Google withholds texts related to LnS

The "Look and Sign" feature is found alongside "Look and Talk" in the "Assistant on Hub Mode" settings. However, Google has chosen to withhold certain texts related to this feature, sparking curiosity about its capabilities.

    Potential

'Look and Sign' feature could enable gesture control

A closer examination of the beta update code revealed that "LNS" stands for "Look and Sign."

This suggests that Google may be planning to introduce hand gestures as an alternative way to activate Google Assistant.

It could also indicate Google's intention to develop a method for individuals who are deaf or mute, to interact with the Assistant using sign language.

    Future

Google Assistant's role in smart home devices

Gemini is gradually replacing Google Assistant across various platforms, except for smart home devices.

However, even as Gemini support seems imminent for the Pixel Tablet, it will differentiate between Assistant and Gemini, based on whether the gadget is docked.

The introduction of the "Look and Sign" feature suggests that Google Assistant may continue to play a crucial role in Google's smart home equipment.
