    What's the story

The GSMA has announced the winners of the Global Mobile (GLOMO) Awards at MWC 2023.

The GLOMO Awards ceremony which took place from February 27-March 2, has four accolades in the 'Device' category, out of which two have been given to Apple for "Best Smartphone" and "Disruptive Device Innovation."

TCL Mobile and Motorola snagged the other two.

    Here are the complete details.

    Context

    Why does this story matter?

The GLOMO Awards are the most esteemed accolades in the smartphone industry and are adjudicated by subject matter experts.

If a brand wins or even gets shortlisted for a GLOMO Award, it signifies that it is a serious player in the tech industry. It's that simple.

The award will give the brand global recognition, often leading to better sales.

    Winner #1

Apple iPhone 14 Pro is the "Best Smartphone" of 2022

Apple's iPhone 14 Pro has received GLOMO's award for the "Best Smartphone."

According to GSMA, this GLOMO Award "combines outstanding performance, innovation, and leadership."

The winner has been chosen through a close analysis of smartphones sold between January 2022 and December 2022.

The Pixel 7 Pro, Nothing Phone (1), Galaxy Z Flip4, and Galaxy S22 Ultra were the other contenders.

    Winner #2

Apple's Emergency SOS via Satellite bags "Disruptive Device Innovation" award

The "Disruptive Device Innovation" award has gone to Apple's Emergency SOS via Satellite-a feature that helps users send texts to emergency services when they are out of cellular and Wi-Fi coverage.

Emergency SOS via Satellite is useful under circumstances when there is no other option to connect with emergency services.

It also allows individuals to share their location using the Find My app.

    Winner #3

TCL Mobile's NXTWEAR S is 2022's "Best Connected Consumer Device"

TCL Mobile won GLOMO's "Best Connected Consumer Device" award for NXTWEAR S XR glasses.

The award honors a commonplace consumer electronic tool/gadget that offers the user innovative/clever functionality at home and while on the go.

Open to all organizations, this award requires a video submission.

The Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro, LMT, Galaxy Watch5 Pro, NXTWEAR S, and Vasco Translator V4 were shortlisted.

    Details

Everything to know about NXTWEAR S

The NXTWEAR S was introduced by TCL Mobile last year.

The product has Sony-manufactured micro-OLED display panels with Full-HD resolution, jointly showing a 130-inch screen (with both 2D/3D content) at about 13 feet away.

It offers multi-device compatibility and knobs for volume/screen brightness.

The wearable gets a pair of open-ear speakers (on each glass arm).

It comes with TÜV's Low Blue Light certification.

    Winner #4

Motorola Defy Satellite Link is the "Best in Show" winner

Motorola's Defy Satellite Link appeared as the "Best in Show" technology.

For those unaware, Defy Satellite Link is a compact/lightweight Bluetooth accessory with military-spec 810H-testing and IP68-rating.

It offers Bullitt's satellite connectivity using Bullitt's Satellite Messenger app and 3GPP NTN technology, allowing two-way messaging, location sharing, and SOS assistance.

The device includes physical SOS and location 'Check In' buttons, and packs a 600mAh battery.

    Information

The users need to opt for a satellite messaging subscription

The Defy Satellite Link is compatible with both Android and iOS devices. To send or receive messages using this accessory, individuals must first opt for a satellite messaging subscription. Each plan offers SOS Assist, allowing 24/7 access to FocusPoint International's emergency response centers.
