Is ASUS 6Z better than the standard OnePlus 7?

    What's the story

Taking on the likes of OnePlus 7 and other mid-premium devices, ASUS has launched its 6Z smartphone in India.

Touted as a flagship killer, it offers an all-screen design, a motorized dual-lens rotating flip camera, flagship internals including a Snapdragon 855 chipset, and a beefy 5,000mAh battery.

But is ASUS 6Z really a better option than the OnePlus 7?

    Let's find out.

    Design

    ASUS 6Z v/s OnePlus 7: At a glance

The ASUS 6Z has an all-screen design achieved by adopting a flip camera setup. However, the bezels are slightly thick and the rear panel looks less impressive because of a fingerprint sensor, a sizeable rear-camera, and prominent branding.

In comparison, the OnePlus 7 retains the design of OnePlus 6T with a waterdrop notched display, rounded edges, and a premium glass finish.

    Winner: OnePlus 7.

    Display

    All about the screen

The ASUS offering features a 6.4-inch full-HD+ (1080x2340 pixels) IPS screen with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, and 600-nits peak brightness. So, whether you are playing games or streaming videos, you won't be interrupted by notches or punch-hole designs.

On the other hand, the OnePlus 7 gets a 6.4-inch AMOLED notched display with a full-HD+ resolution.

    Winner: ASUS 6Z.

    Primary camera

    For the shutterbugs

The ASUS 6Z comes with a motorized dual lens rear camera comprising a 48MP (f/1.7) main lens and a 13MP ultra-wide-angle lens. The main camera also offers perfect panoramas and live tracking of subjects in video mode, thanks to the moving camera setup.

    OnePlus 7 gets a similar setup with a 48MP (f/1.7) primary sensor and a 5MP (f/2.4) depth sensor.

    Winner: ASUS 6Z.

    Front camera

    For the selfie lovers

The ASUS 6Z lacks a front-facing camera. However, for clicking selfies, the rear camera flips up to serve as a front-facing camera. Hence, with a 48MP+13MP setup, you get brighter, sharper and more detailed selfies given the high-quality sensors.

The OnePlus 7, on the other hand, offers a 16MP (f2.0) selfie shooter housed in the waterdrop notch.

    Winner: ASUS 6Z.

    Internals

    Under the hood

Both OnePlus 7 and ASUS 6Z are powered by the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, paired with Adreno 640 GPU, 6GB/8GB RAM, and 128GB/256GB of storage.

However, the OnePlus competitor has the advantage of UFS 3.0 storage format which makes all on-device operations pretty fast.

Moreover, in terms of software, OnePlus's OxygenOS 9 is smoother than ASUS's Android Pie-based ZenUI.

    Winner: OnePlus 7.

    Nitty-gritty

    From battery to biometrics

The OnePlus 7 offers a 3,700mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging. It also offers an improved in-display fingerprint sensor.

In comparison, the ASUS 6Z packs a beefier 5,000mAh battery with 18W Quick Charge 4.0 support and a good old rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Further, both phones also pack stereo speakers.

Winner: ASUS 6Z for its massive battery.

    Information

    Pricing: The key factor

The OnePlus 7 costs Rs. 32,999 for the 6GB/128GB model and Rs. 37,999 for the 8GB/256GB variant. In comparison, the ASUS 6Z is priced at Rs. 31,999 for the 6GB/64GB variant, Rs. 34,999 for the 6GB/128GB model, and Rs. 39,999 for the 8GB/256GB variant.

    Our verdict

    How things stack up?

The OnePlus 7 comes as a worthy upgrade over OnePlus 6T but it does fall behind on some fronts including camera, battery, and design.

And it is on these parameters that the ASUS 6Z outshines its competitors. With a good unobstructed display, an innovative camera, a solid battery, and top-of-the-line internals, it is a better option.

    Winner: ASUS 6Z.
