    What's the story

Apple's latest sustainability report reveals a significant decrease in its greenhouse gas emissions, primarily due to its suppliers' shift toward cleaner energy sources.

The tech giant's total carbon dioxide emissions fell from 20.6 million metric tons in 2022 to 16.1 million metric tons in 2023, marking a reduction of 22% within a year.

Since 2015, Apple has managed to cut its total emissions by over 55%.

    Emission targets

Emission reduction strategy shows positive outcome

In 2023, approximately 58% of Apple's emissions were attributed to the goods and services it procured, equating to 9.4 million metric tons of CO2.

This figure is a decrease from the previous year's 13.4 million metric tons.

If this trend continues, Apple could fulfill its pledge of reducing emissions by 75% by the year 2030, as stated in the company's sustainability report.

    Energy savings

Apple's push toward energy efficiency enhancements

Apple has been actively encouraging its suppliers to switch to renewable energy and improve energy efficiency.

This initiative has resulted in a saving of 2 billion kWh of electricity last year at 100 supplier facilities, preventing nearly 1.7 million metric tons of carbon emissions.

The company's efforts are part of its broader commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by the end of this decade.
