Apple macOS Sequoia releases today: What's new for your Mac
What's the story
Apple will soon start rolling out its latest desktop operating system, macOS Sequoia.
Although no exact release time has been announced, users are advised to check their devices for the update.
Similar to iOS 18, macOS Sequoia will launch without Apple Intelligence features, which are postponed until at least macOS Sequoia 15.1 in October.
However, the new macOS version brings several exciting updates, including Window Tiling, iPhone Mirroring, Passwords app, and more.
New features
iPhone mirroring and window tiling
iPhone Mirroring is the most noticeable feature of macOS Sequoia.
It introduces a new icon in the Dock that allows users to view their iPhone screen on their Mac. The OS will also display notifications from your iPhone.
Another significant addition is Window Tiling, Apple's third attempt at organizing windows on a screen. This feature allows users to snap a window into place by dragging it to an edge of the screen.
App launch
Standalone Passwords app
Apple has introduced a new stock app called Passwords in macOS Sequoia. This standalone app is an extension of the password functionality that has been part of Safari for years.
While it won't replace third-party tools like 1Password, it's expected to deter some users from purchasing third-party password managers.
Safari, Apple's browser, will also seen improvements in macOS Sequoia. The Reader view will now offer finer controls for altering text presentation, aiming to provide a better reading experience.
Upcoming additions
Apple Intelligence to introduce new features
Apple Intelligence is set to introduce new features like Writing Tools that can summarize or even rewrite your writing.
The automatic summary feature in Apple Mail is expected to become universally used due to its efficiency.
Image Playground, another feature under Apple Intelligence, will allow users to request macOS to create an image within certain limits. However, it won't support the creation of deepfake images or any photorealistic images.

How to get macOS Sequoia?
The new macOS Sequoia is compatible starting with: iMac 2019, iMac Pro 2017, Mac Studio 2022, Mac mini 2018, Mac Pro 2019, MacBook Air 2020, and MacBook Pro 2018.
All Macs with M-series of chips will also receive the firmware. To check for the update, head to System Settings >General >Software Update.
Users are advised to back up their important data before upgrading to macOS Sequoia. Even with extensive public and developer beta testing, new issues may still surface.
