Amazon joins coalition to boost transparency of AI-generated content

    What's the story

Amazon has become the latest member of the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) steering committee.

This move aligns with C2PA's mission to enhance the transparency of digital content, and promote widespread adoption of Content Credentials.

The C2PA is responsible for publishing and maintaining these credentials, a widely accepted standard that provides information about how and when digital content was created or altered.

Amazon joins a group of industry leaders including Google, Microsoft, Intel, Meta, Sony, OpenAI, and more.

    AI integration

    Content Credentials for AI-generated images

As part of its new role in the C2PA steering committee, Amazon will now incorporate Content Credentials into images produced using its Titan Image Generator v1 and v2.

These foundational AI models enable enterprise clients to generate realistic pictures or modify existing ones.

This integration of Content Credentials will allow users to verify the origin and authenticity of content generated by artificial intelligence (AI).

    Responsible innovation

    Commitment to responsible AI use

Vasi Philomin, Amazon Web Services (AWS)'s VP of Generative AI, emphasized the company's dedication to responsible AI use.

He stated that it is crucial to foster transparency around digital content as generative AI use accelerates.

"All Amazon Titan-generated images contain an invisible watermark by default, providing a discreet mechanism to help reduce the spread of misinformation," Philomin said.

    Video processing

Amazon to incorporate Content Credentials into AWS Elemental MediaConvert

In addition to images, Amazon plans to integrate Content Credentials into AWS Elemental MediaConvert, a file-based video processing service that transcodes content for broadcast and multi-screen delivery on a large scale.

This implementation will enable its clients — like sports broadcasters and news organizations — to verify the origin of the media they are sharing.

It will also allow their news aggregators and distribution partners to confirm the authenticity of the content before posting it on their platforms.
