    What's the story

Guess what Google Chrome is getting for its 10th birthday? A design overhaul and a host of new utilities.

Dubbed Chrome 69, the popular web browser's latest iteration is being rolled out to iOS, Android, and desktops around the world today.

Notably, the redesign is in line with Google's Material Design principles, thus giving the browser a modern look and feel.

    Here's more.

    Redesign

The flatter, rounder design looks slick and modern

In line with Google's Material Design 2 principles, the redesigned Chrome gets "more rounded shapes, new icons, and a new color palette".

Indeed, the flatter, rounded design looks modern, and makes navigation easier when you have several tabs open.

Additionally, menus and other design elements have also been simplified, and customizability options allows users to add background images, create custom shortcuts etc.

    Search

The revamped Omnibox is smarter and offers more information

Google has also revamped its search bar, known as the Omnibox.

Searches now shows more information without the need to open results in a new tab. For example, type Einstein, and you'll know he was a theoretical physicist.

Additionally, Omnibox now allows you to search among tabs that are already open, and Google will soon add the ability to search through Google Drive directly.

    Other features

Revamped autofill, password manager, and more focus on AI

Other notable changes include improvements to autofill and a new password manager that has the ability to recommend strong passwords. Should you take Google's recommendations, your passwords will be linked and stored on your Google account.

There's also an added emphasis on AI and machine learning, both of which will add not just functionality, but security through better detection of malicious and phishing sites.
