Google might launch a Pixel-branded smartwatch this year

    What's the story

According to reports, Google is developing a Pixel-branded smartwatch which will be released later this year at the company's annual autumnal hardware launch event.

This will be Google's first ever smartwatch.

Notably, the company recently rebranded its Android Wear to Wear OS and people had been expecting Google to finally make its own wearable to show off the rebranded software.

Besides the Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, and second-gen Pixel Buds, a reliable source tells me -- with high confidence -- that Google's fall hardware event will also introduce a Pixel-branded watch. Have a great summer!

    Details

Google's smartwatch might be put on production line soon

Another report claims that Google is working on not one, but three Pixel-branded smartwatches. These devices are code-named "Ling", "Triton", and "Sardine".

It is also being reported that Google's smartwatches have reached "second level of design verification", which is done to check if a device would be feasible to mass-produce.

Notably, the smartwatch might be titled the Google Pixel Watch.

    Speculations

The watch might be powered by Snapdragon Wear 3100 platform

The Pixel-branded smartwatch will most likely be powered by Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon Wear 3100 platform, which is nicknamed "blackghost".

Earlier, Pankaj Kapida, Qualcomm's senior wearables director, said that the new chipset designed for smartwatches will be launched later this year with a "lead" device.

This indicates that he might be talking about the Google Pixel Watch itself.

    Information

Google also working on third-gen Pixel smartphones, second-gen Pixel buds

At the hardware launch event, Google will also unveil the Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, and second-generation Pixel Buds. Last year, at the same event, Google had launched the Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixelbook, Pixel Buds, Home Mini, and Clips camera.
