Delhi polls: AAP leaders, including Kejriwal, trailing in early trends

    What's the story

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are locked in a close contest as the counting of votes for the Delhi Assembly elections progresses.

The AAP is hoping to give Arvind Kejriwal a fourth term as chief minister.

However, early trends show that Kejriwal is trailing behind BJP's Parvesh Verma in the New Delhi constituency.

    Election update

Other AAP leaders trail in key constituencies

Along with Kejriwal, other top AAP leaders are also trailing in their constituencies. Former education minister Manish Sisodia is currently trailing in Jangpura.

Chief Minister Atishi is also trailing BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri in Kalkaji.

However, AAP's Amanatullah Khan is leading in Okhla and Gopal Rai and Satyendar Jain are ahead in Babarpur.

    Election trends

New AAP candidate trails, BJP takes early lead

Avadh Ojha, a new AAP candidate who joined the party before the elections, is trailing in Patparganj. Durgesh Pathak is also lagging behind in Rajinder Nagar.

The AAP first came to power in Delhi in 2013 with 28 seats but ruled for only 49 days.

In 2015, they won a record 67 seats and bagged 62 in the 2020 elections.

Many exit polls had predicted a comeback for the BJP after 27 years.
