    What's the story

    The high-stakes Delhi election for 70 assembly constituencies is underway.

    According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), till 1:00pm, voter turnout in Delhi's 70 assembly constituencies was 33.31%.

    Northeast Delhi saw the greatest voter turnout at 39.51%, while Central Delhi recorded the lowest at 29.74%.

    Former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's constituency, New Delhi, recorded a voter turnout of 29.89 %.

    Key contests and candidates in Delhi assembly elections

    The Delhi Assembly elections are an important battleground for the big guns of politics- Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Congress.

    While the AAP is hoping to win a third consecutive term, the BJP is looking to return to power after almost three decades.

    The New Delhi seat has a high-profile contest between former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal (AAP), BJP's Parvesh Verma, and Congress's Sandeep Dikshit.

    Candidate count

    Total of 699 candidates contesting across 70 assembly seats

    A total of 699 candidates are in the fray for the 70 assembly seats in Delhi.

    In Jangpura, AAP's Manish Sisodia is pitted against Congress's Farhad Suri and BJP's Tarvinder Singh Marwah.

    To ensure smooth voting, the Election Commission has stationed 220 companies of paramilitary forces, 35,626 Delhi Police personnel, and 19,000 home guards.

    The counting of votes is scheduled to take place on February 8.
