    Rekha Gupta takes oath as Delhi CM

    What's the story

    First-time legislator from Shalimar Bagh, Rekha Gupta, took oath as the new chief minister of Delhi on Thursday at Ramlila Maidan.

    The event was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, chief ministers and deputy chief ministers of 20 states, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, and activists from other states who campaigned in the Delhi elections.

    She was picked as CM 11 days after the Delhi election results were declared.

    Gupta's cabinet and her commitment to Delhi's welfare

    The new cabinet under Gupta will have representatives from different community groups, including a prominent Sikh leader.

    Among the key faces expected to be a part of her cabinet are Parvesh Verma, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravindra Kumar Indraj, Kapil Mishra, Ashish Sood, and Pankaj Kumar Singh.

    In the recent elections, Gupta won a decisive victory against Aam Aadmi Party's Bandana Kumari by over 29,500 votes.

    Gupta's political journey and future plans for Delhi

    Upon being appointed, Gupta thanked the party's central leadership and Prime Minister Modi for "trusting...and entrusting me with the responsibility of the post of Chief Minister."

    She also pledged to work with "full honesty, integrity and dedication for the welfare, empowerment and overall development of every citizen."

    As a gift on Women's Day, Gupta on Thursday said that the BJP government will fulfill its poll promise of providing ₹2,500 in monthly financial aid to women starting March 8.

    Gupta's victory in recent elections and husband's reaction

    In its manifesto for the Delhi Assembly Elections, the BJP pledged to provide monthly financial support of ₹2,500 to Delhi women, surpassing the AAP's promise of ₹2,100 per month.

    Gupta will be leading the city after over 26 years, ending the 10-year rule of the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP.
